Pritchard Civil “We’ve just finished the site works for a new vet facility in Otaki; they’re just starting the vertical construction of it.” INFRASTRUCTURE Specialising in earthworks, roading, three waters and site works, Pritchard Civil counts itself fortunate to have been involved in many key projects in the Kapiti Coast region and beyond. Since 2017, the Otaki company has been owned by brothers John and Sam Pritchard, who are continuing the legacy of their father David Pritchard and his brother Stuart, who started the business in the 1970s. John says he and Sam are grateful and proud of the foundations laid, but are also conscious of the need to innovate and evolve to sustain long-term success. “Our vision is to sustainably grow the business through diversification and utilising technology, while maintaining a focus on family values, efficiency, quality and making a positive contribution to our community.” Being based in Otaki, which has a population of around 4000, the company has a strong affinity for local projects and the tremendous difference they make, whether for commercial, local body or private clients, John says. “We’ve just finished the site works for a new vet facility in Otaki; they’re just starting the vertical construction of it. In my view, it’s going to be a first-class veterinary hospital here in Otaki.” This project follows site works completed in 2023 ahead of staged construction work at Te Wananga O Raukawa’s Otaki Campus. The overall plan is to redevelop the campus to be environmentally friendly, following the seven performance areas of The Living Building Challenge, an international certification programme defining today’s most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment. In stage one, four new buildings, a car park and a courtyard will be built. One building is for management and administration staff, while the others will have classrooms and offices for teaching personnel. “Pritchard Civil was engaged by McMillan Lockwood to undertake site works and landscaping for this impressive Living Building Challenge project, which is the gold standard of sustainable and equitable development.” The site works components included earthworks, three waters, pavement, timber piling and landscaping, working alongside the building crews most of the time. From a construction perspective, the Te Wananga O Raukawa project and The Living Building Challenge has prompted a rethink of the way Pritchard Civil has traditionally gone about its business, John says. “In time, we believe many of these building philosophies, practices and materials will become the industry norm.” Pritchard Civil was also the civil works contractor for the construction of Te Ara a Tāwhaki, the newest building on campus housing its library, a lecture theatre and student hub. “We are proud to call Otaki home, and be part of this culturally significant and worldclass sustainable development.” “With these exciting projects going up around Otaki, the expressway extension from Otaki to Levin, due to commence this year, Kapiti Coast District Council investing in significant infrastructure upgrades and the residential market warming up again it appears the forecast is good for sunny Otaki.” • Electrical Contracting and Project Management • Electrical Design & Planning Services • Air-Conditioning Install & Maintenance • Commercial Lighting & Switching • Electrical Maintenance & Periodic Inspections • BWOF and EWOF, IQP Accredited • Fire Alarm Systems & Emergency Lighting • Additions & Alterations • Free Quotes for any project PROUD TO SUPPORT PRITCHARD CIVIL www.brienelectrical.co.nz | Freephone 0800 TEAMBRIEN | Freephone 0800 832627 PARAPARAUMU • WELLINGTON • LEVIN Always Professional, Always Reliable, Always Efficient WHATWE DO: (04) 473 1263 tony@capitalinsurance.co.nz capitalinsurance.co.nz Commercial & Residential New Builds or Renovations?
