MANUFACTURING As one of the best all-round enhancements to a new or existing home, louvre roofs can transform outdoor areas into amazing spaces. Cambridge-based NZ Louvres is where this transformation becomes reality though its range of stylish louvre roofs, panels and screens, chimney louvre cowls and Ziptrak outdoor blinds that are available nationwide. NZ Louvres has designed its own range of louvre products, using its own proprietary aluminium profiles manufactured in-house, with every louvre project the company manufactures being a bespoke design, business development manager Todd Lay says. “It is specially built and fabricated to suit a customer’s home, so we go out and quote for a specific design, which will typically attach directly to their house so we fully integrate with existing buildings, or alternatively we can do stand-alone as well.” Each individual louvre component is manufactured from structural grade aluminium with a CNC machine and comes with a Dulux warranty for the powder coating. A strong focus on sustainability is a key part of NZ Louvres operations. “We use the only aluminium extruder in New Zealand with its own re-melt facility, which means our product incorporates a high content of recycled material. Being New Zealand- produced aluminium, it means we can ensure higher grade, higher quality and local supply; we are supporting the local economy.” “In addition to that, we are always focusing on improvements around efficiency in all parts of our business [including] recyclability and less paper usage – it’s part of our culture. Through ongoing development we’ve continued to improve everything from delivery times to production processes.” During the past few years NZ Louvres has upgraded its factory equipment to CNC machines and bigger upcut saws, and has recently changed the entire layout of the factory to enhance the flow from raw materials in to products out. “Again, that’s helped to improve our sustainability in terms of production time and all the efficiencies that go with that,” says Todd. As the company’s flagship product, its louvre-opening roof not only creates a sheltered connection to the outdoors, but also provides a wonderful space where a homeowner and friends and whanau can relax, connect and socialise. With the flexibility of the NZ Louvres’ louvre-opening roof, summer can be effectively extended and winter reduced because of the degree of sun, shade and shelter that can be controlled. “It’s about enjoying the great outdoors and enjoying the beautiful scenery and the fresh air that we are blessed to have in New Zealand.” While decks with NZ Louvres’ roofs are fantastic in situations with rural, coastal, lake and river views, they create an equally valuable space in suburban homes, and at a lower build cost per square metre than the addition of a room to a house. Through careful design and integration, NZ Louvres’ louvre-opening roof effortlessly elevates what is often an under-utilised outdoor space. “Once you add Ziptrack blinds to close it in. and LED lights, you’ve got quite an elegant space where you can have outdoor furniture and indoor comfort in an outdoor setting.” NZ Louvres’ louvre-opening roof offers some cool technology, with most clients opting for a fully integrated motorised system that opens and closes at the touch of a button on a hand-held remote. The system also includes, by default, a sensor that automatically closes the louvres when it rains, which provides immediate protection to outdoor furniture and decking, while new innovations in NZ Louvres’ control system now enables integration into home automation systems. businesscentral Each edition priority delivered to your door. .
