Business Central February 2025

88 | Positive signs for 2025 While the team enjoyed some well-earned down-time over Christmas and the New Year, the breakdown service continued. AUTOMOTIVE Levin Truck Services T T Sue Russell Martin Sayer and Malcolm Page established Levin Truck Services in November 2008, and today, with a team of 15 mechanics, engineers, hydraulics specialists and CoF technicians, the business extends its activity over a wide area spanning Otaki, Shannon, through to Foxton. And while the market environment presents them with challenges in these tight financial times, Martin says he’s pleased with the company’s situation at this time. Currently, Levin Truck Services has two apprentices on the books, with every other employee qualified and experienced. “The apprentices are working through to become qualified diesel mechanics and are doing well. They started at the beginning of last year and training can take 18 to 36 months.” Martin describes the whole transport sector as an industry is operating in the slow lane, particularly since last August. “People simply aren’t spending the money like they used to, so this directly impacts allied businesses such as this. I do feel that this year, however, will be more positive. Our CoF lane has lately picked up in demand, which is a good sign the trucks are starting to move again.” Martin says he is optomistic that with reducing interest rates and more activity in the market, demand for the array of services they offer will continue positively this year. The workshop, at 35 Tararua Road, Levin, is home to a 22-metre drive-through service and CoF lane, and there’s plenty of room for the engineering bay and all the state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and software needed these days to keep sophisticated vehicles in top gear, Martin says. In addition to this, the company offers industrial, construction and farm machinery operators in Horowhenua a complete suite of services, including hydraulic hose repairs, and general engineering capability. A critically important part of the service offering is the 24/7 breakdown repair service, something Martin says they take pride in providing for their customers. “We also check over vehicles before they need to renew their CoF’s, which our customers find of real value.” Martin says he’s pleased with how the business has progressed since its founding. He understands what his customers need and says the fact there are so many repeat customers is testament to the fact he and the team deliver great service. The workshop is ideal for all the activity that takes place there, and is plenty big enough to future-proof the business, Martin says. “Our main activity is truck repairs and servicing, and we look after all makes and models. We also offer specialised qualified engineering skills. Our engineer has attended courses, which means he can issue an LT400 certificate. We’re the only ones locally who can offer this service.” While the team enjoyed some well-earned down-time over Christmas and the New Year, the breakdown service continued. Martin understands that time is money when it comes to getting trucks and machinery up and running. “We know its important to be their promptly and to fix the problem in the shortest possible time.
