96 | Awards keep coming for roofing leader Edwards and Hardy Roofing has evolved into the country’s biggest roof maintenance and re-roofing company. Edwards & Hardy Roofing - Gisborne T T Hugh de Lacy “This award underscores the Edwards and Hardy Roofing Gisborne branch’s commitment to excellence, innovation and safety in the roofing industry.” CONTRACTING After starting out in the early 1960s cleaning moss off roofs, in the subsequent decades Edwards and Hardy Roofing has evolved into the country’s biggest roof maintenance and re-roofing company, with its stature in the industry enhanced by major awards in each of the past two years. Edwards and Hardy expanded its services from moss removal to encompass roofing, scaffolding, Lindab Gutter Systems, exterior cleaning and drone inspections – and it has 16 branches around the country and more than 400 employees. The company backs its work up with its Edwards and Hardy Guarantee and Manufacturers’ Warranty, an aspect of its services that has kept clients loyal for decades in many cases, and its roll of new clients growing. Its standing in the industry was highlighted in 2023 when it won the Roofing Association of New Zealand (RANZ) Training Company of the Year Award, recognising its contribution to furthering the education and skills of its staff. And last year Edwards and Hardy Roofing topped that accolade by winning RANZ’s Commercial Roofer of the Year Award for a project carried out by its Gisborne branch. This was the re-roofing of the De Lautour Medical Centre in Gisborne, a project that was particularly challenging because of the building’s age, its unique design and the necessity to maintain the centre’s retail operations throughout the work. “To address these challenges we adopted a phased approach aimed at minimising disruptions and so ensuring the Medical Centre could continue its essential services uninterrupted,” the manager of Edwards and Hardy Roofing’s Gisborne branch, Dean Twigley says. “We also had to implement stringent safety measures, including ground spotters, isolation zones and scrim netting to safeguard workers and the public.” The judges acknowledged this, saying: “This award underscores the Edwards and Hardy Roofing Gisborne branch’s commitment to excellence, innovation and safety in the roofing industry.” Dean is highly conscious of and committed to Edwards and Hardy Roofing’s core value of providing the best of both customer service and unmatched workmanship. A signature product of the company is its RoofGuard™ Maintenance System, which has been used to clean and maintain domestic and commercial roofs throughout the country for decades. Another is the Lindab Gutter, produced in Sweden since 1956 and today sold worldwide on the strength of its unparalleled durability and performance. Drones, as an aid to roof treatment and the preparation of roof reports, are a more recent addition to the Edwards and Hardy Roofing’s toolbox, allowing more precise surveillance of the surfaces to be covered, and more accurate remedial work as a result. The company also has an extensive inventory of scaffolding and associated equipment. As well as its own directly employed staff, it is supported by a similar number of contractors providing cleaning, repairs and maintenance, re-coating and re-roofing services to a huge range of residential, commercial and institutional long-run metal, tile and concrete roofs. Additional services the company offers include gutter cleaning and installation, exterior wall and pathway cleaning, brick and block sealing, and spider control.
