Jones Group REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Jones Group’s newly secured Class 3 landfill consent is proving to be a turning point for the Taranaki-based quarrying and earthworks business, opening up new environmental services and delivering a long-awaited local solution for contaminated soil management. The consent, recently approved after a full review process, allows Jones Group to accept and manage contaminated soils at its site, making it one of only a small number of operators nationally – and the only one in the region – with that capability. For the wider Taranaki construction and infrastructure sector, it removes the need for costly out-ofregion transport and disposal. Director Gavin Jones says the approval is a major milestone for the family-owned business and the region it supports. “It’s a game changer,” Gavin says. “Until now, contaminated soils have had to be carted long distances at significant cost. Being able to manage that locally means faster turnaround, lower transport costs, and better environmental outcomes.” Jones Group is operated by a father-and two-son team, Gavin, Sam and Benj, and has grown steadily from its quarrying roots into a diversified civil, environmental, and aggregate supply business servicing projects across Taranaki and beyond. While the broader construction market remains challenging, Sam says the business has continued to push forward by expanding capability rather than standing still. “Things are still tough across the industry,” Sam says. “But we’ve deliberately focused on building a more resilient business by investing in different services and finding practical solutions that our customers genuinely need.” That approach is evident in the group’s involvement in several high-profile infrastructure projects. Jones Group is currently supplying aggregate, site trucking, and concrete recycling services for the Mt Messenger bypass and tunnel project, working alongside major contractors on one of the region’s most significant transport upgrades. The business has also recently completed aggregate supply for multiple roundabout projects delivered with Fulton Hogan and Downer across Taranaki, and is undertaking maintenance and roading support work with the local council as investment begins to flow back into regional infrastructure. Alongside its quarrying and cartage operations, Jones Group has steadily built an environmental arm focused on recycling and waste recovery. The company was the first in Taranaki to establish a dedicated concrete recycling depot and to introduce mobile crushing equipment to the region, allowing materials to be processed directly on-site. “We’ve always recycled concrete, asphalt, and clean fill,” Gavin says. “That’s not new for us. What’s changed is the scale and the range of materials we can now handle.” The business now processes concrete clean fill, clay, topsoil, untanalised timber and green waste, with shredded material repurposed as products for use on farms or sold to the public through Jones Group’s landscape yards. More recently, Jones Group has begun recycling gypsum to produce fertiliser products, responding to growing demand for locally sourced soil and nutrient solutions. Sam says having quarrying, cartage, recycling, and landfill capability under one roof allows the business to offer practical package solutions. “If someone comes to us with a problem, we can usually solve it end to end,” he says. “We can load it, cart it, process it, recycle what we can, and dispose of what’s left – all locally.” With five quarry sites across the region and growing interest from outside Taranaki, Gavin says Jones Group remains focused on responsible growth, quality service, and delivering long-term value . 2 bay shed with two bedroom dwelling 1 bathroom 2 bedroom pole shed STRATFORD Checkout our fabulous showroom for more renovation inspiration, showcasing products from NZ’s most trusted and respected brands.
