Tip Top Roofing “The challenge for us was getting everything redone and back up to scratch on a tight timeline.” CONTRACTING Tip Top Roofing has raised the roof on its reputation with its recent work on the rebuilt Off The Track Restaurant in Havelock North, delivering a full roofing and cladding package that showcased the Napier company’s capability on complex commercial builds. Tip Top Roofing managing director, Tipene Maniopoto, says the project called for speed, precision, and close coordination with Jay Jay Builders and Roofing Industries, both key partners in the rebuild after the popular family restaurant was damaged by fire in 2023. Based in Napier but working across the wider region, Tipene says the job was a strong example of Tip Top Roofing’s ability to handle full exterior packages. The team completed both the roofing and cladding, wrapping the entire building in Colorsteel as part of the redesign. “The challenge for us was getting everything redone and back up to scratch on a tight timeline,” Tipene says. “It was a decent-sized job because we weren’t just reroofing; the whole building ended up wrapped. The internal gutters needed replacing, and we installed perforated corrugated iron in the ceilings for acoustic performance.” With much of the cladding and flashing left visually exposed, accuracy and finish were critical. “It was fiddly in some of those internal areas,” Tipene says. “They used a lot of cedar, and getting the Colorsteel to tie in with the timber really breaks it up and looks good.” Tipene says Jay Jay Builders set the project up for success with strong preparation and communication. “Jay Jay Builders did an excellent job. Everything was ready for us and straight, which makes a massive difference.” Roofing Industries, Tip Top Roofing’s preferred supplier, also played a key role. “They’re the only supplier we use. They’ve always been awesome to deal with.” Hawke’s Bay Membrane installed the internal gutter membrane and worked closely with the roofing team as substrate issues came up. “They were good with time frames and turned up when they said they would.” Tipene has been roofing for more than a decade, establishing Tip Top Roofing about 13 years ago. He says the business has grown steadily with a focus on doing the job once and doing it right. “I like to take the time and make sure everyone’s happy.” Staffing remains a challenge across the trades, but Tipene says the team is in a solid position heading into 2026. The company currently has six staff, including apprentices, with plans to bring on more as workloads increase. “There’s not enough of the right people out there, and next year’s looking busy.” Tip Top Roofing works across both residential and commercial projects, with a preference for the scale of commercial roofing. “It’s big and straight, and you can really rip through it.” Tipene says the Off The Track project, completed to a high standard and on deadline, stands as a strong example of the company’s workmanship and collaborative approach. “We put a lot of time and effort into that job. It’s the kind of work we enjoy.” B U I L D E R S • Commercial Renovations • New Builds & Extensions • Decks & Outdoor Areas 027 472 9743 | jason@jjbuilders.co.nz | www.jjbuilders.co.nz Proud to supply Tip Top Roofing
