Hoskins Energy Systems owner Greg Hoskins says when the irm irst began, there were very few requests for renewable installations, but Hoskins Energy Systems was always looking for opportunities to gain experience with that new technology. O grid systems rely heavily on good quality, well designed battery systems tomaintain the power supply when generation is low for extended periods. These are mainly low maintenance, long lasting lead, carbon, or lithiumbatteries. Many grid connected solar systems also have batteries added to provide power generated onsite to loads when the sun is not shining, or the grid power has failed. Hoskins Energy Systems has installed hundreds of o grid systems all around New Zealand, and Greg says as prices continue to fall and systeme iciencies increase, o grid has become reachable for manymore people over the past three to four years. O -grid systems can be an attractive economic alternative to connecting to the grid in some remote locations.
