T he Sebel Wellington Lower Hutt is set to open its doors in September and will forever change the face of Lower Hutt, says general manager for Sebel Wellington Lower Hutt and the Lower Hutt Events Centre Gert Venter. “The 4.5 star hotel will be a new offering for the area and complement the Lower Hutt Events Centre by providing good quality ac- commodation,” he says. Situated at 15 Queens Drive alongside Te Awa Kairangi (The Hutt River), in close proximi- ty to Lower Hutt City Centre, Queensgate Mall, Civic precinct and Lower Hutt Events Centre, the hotel offers 60 fully serviced studios and one-bedroom apartments suitable for busi- ness and leisure travellers. Rooms include 50” LED smart TV Netflix and Sky digital channels including Freeview, kitchenette, ergonomic work desk and chair, USB charging outlets, tea and coffee facilities and a microwave. Suites offer an espresso coffee machine, full kitchen, dishwasher, laundry washer, dryer, and dining area. All guests enjoy a concierge service, high-speed Wi-Fi, valet parking and easy ac- cess to City Fitness Gym. Downstairs is Biscotti, an independent Italian themed café and restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. “Biscotti features a wide selection of freshly baked artisanal breads with a variety of home- made local and organic fillings to tantalize guests’ taste buds. Guests can enjoy classic handmade Italian pizzas or speciality pasta dishes. It’s an excellent new food addition to the area,” says Gert. Tutaki Café is located at the nearby Lower Hutt Events Centre, which features a diverse international menu, meaning people have plenty of food options, he says. The hotel will cater to all types of guests and will specifically complement the Lower Hutt Events Centre, New Zealand’s first 5-star Qualmark venue. Lower Hutt Events Centre offers a range of spaces catering for executive meetings of 10, banquets of up to 500 and a performance for 800 guests. The Sebel Wellington Lower Hutt is being built by Sarin Investments. The company also has the management agreement of the Lower Hutt Events Centre. The origins of the project came about when Hutt City Council was seeking to earthquake strengthen its town hall and replace the Agricultural Hall that was damaged by the earthquake. The hotel forms part of Lower Hutt’s rejuvenation plan. Watts & Hughes is constructing the hotel, which was designed by Pacific Architecture. The Sebel Wellington Lower Hutt is well connected by public transport and road ac- cess. State Highway 2 connects central Lower Hutt with Wellington city centre in less than 20 minutes and Wellington International Airport in 30 minutes by car. Bus services are avail- able from around the region, with a number of stops in close proximity to the hotel. The nearest train station, Western Hutt, is a quick 10 minutes’ walk away. Gert says the benefits the hotel will bring to the local area will be tremendous: “It’s the first international branded hotel for Lower Hutt.
