Ensuring the best service with Harkin Roofing Harkin Roo ing BOP Ltd is as good as their word—if they say your roof is being installed Tuesday, it will be installed Tuesday. “Taking ownership for our service has been key for us—we stand by all our projects and do them to a very high standard,” says Brad Harkin, Co-Managing Director of the business established by his father 40 years ago. “Your only real point of di erence is the quality of workmanship and the service provided to the client. With construction projects, timeframes are very tight and everything is programmed in—so delivering on time is critical to success.” Rex and Sue Harkin established the Tauranga based roo ing company in 1979, back in the day when there was an absence of specialist commercial and industrial roo ing companies. With a background in sheet metal, entrepreneurial Rex spotted the gap and Harkin Roo ing was born. From one man, the business grew to two and then four till now Harkin Roo ing is a team of 35 inclusive of o ice sta and a dedicated workshop manager manufacturing the company’s own lashings. Starting in the business at ground level in 2002 as a 16 year old, Brad has worked his way up through the business and when Rex retired from the business, Brad and his sister Deborah took over the reins. Predominantly undertaking projects throughout the Bay of Plenty and Waikato—Brad says from time to time they are engaged to do projects in other regions and are about to start a large project in Gisborne. The company is also in the closing stages of its largest undertaking to date, by far. “We were engaged to do the roof, wall claddings, so it and some internal walls on APL Wndow Solutions new 45,000sqm building in Hautapu. The building is being completed to a very high standard using insulated Kingspan panels in both the roof and wall claddings. Our biggest project before this was 37,000sqm—so it has been major undertaking, but one that has been very rewarding for our team.” Harkin Roo ing works with diverse products including Coloursteel Longrun Roo ing and Wall Cladding, membrane products for deck and roof areas through to Kingspan Insulated Panels, and its services includes the installation of wall claddings, gutters and downpipes. Very well established as commercial and industrial roo ing specialists, Harkin Roo ing has always maintained a policy of owning its own plant and equipment—such as scissor and boom lifts—to ensure the best service is delivered to its clients. “When we shifted into our new purpose-built premise in Tauriko we also updated our lashing machine to a fully automated 8 metre folder and slitting line,” says Brad. “And we pride ourselves on having really good sta retention.
