Manawatu Business Awards - DCPower Batteries REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT P roudly Palmerston North-based compa- ny DCPower Batteries has recently won the 2020 Manawatu Business Awards Innovation with Talent category. The win marks the company’s unique ap- proach to attract, foster and retain talent. It comes on the back of business awards won in previous years including Small Busi- ness of the Year, Professional Services and Retail Services and the Supreme Business of the Year. Company general manager Sarah Laurence says the on-going accolades the company has received are indicative of its focus on deliver- ing the best products and customer service to its dedicated client base. Started by Sarah’s father Darryl in 2005, the team at DCPower has enjoyed servicing the wider Manawatu region for more than 15 years with a large range of automotive, network power, deep cycle, solar and industri- al batteries. The company offers forklift batteries as well as batteries for cars, boats, motorbikes, golf carts, heavy transport, machinery, equipment, kontikis, UPS, electric fences and much more. Sarah says DCPower has a clear point of difference in that it is the only small locally owned and operated company of its type in the region. She says this means DCPower can make fast decisions when needed – something that has been of huge benefit to its clients as the business climate has constantly changed during the pandemic. Backed by a local on- the-ground team and good stock holdings, DCPower has ensured its customers’ business- es are not disrupted. T Karen Phelps Offering incredibly tailored solutions backed by the right data is another unique selling point, says Sarah. “Our aim is to optimise the life of the bat- tery as well as ensure our clients get optimal efficiency from it in their unique operation. Minimising idle time of equipment, fuel effi- ciency and battery management are just some of the things we consider.” DCPower does this by fitting forklift bat- teries with a management module, which relays valuable data so customers can make informed decisions about their batteries. Offering the latest products is also important and the team is focused on how lithium bat- teries can best serve their customers needs recognising this is the future of batteries. “For example clients such as Foodstuffs need to operate 24/7. This increased demand on their batteries can best be met with lithium models,” says Sarah. The enormous combined knowledge of the DCPower team – 67 years in the battery indus- try – is also hugely valuable. As the industry is so specific, DCPower trains its own staff and places great emphasis on this as well as retaining that knowledge. Incentives, which partly won them the award, include giving staff members their birthday off work and a team driven social budget for fun outside the workplace. DCPower is proud to be truly independent and not tied to any one particular brand. This means it can offer tailored advice to each customer to suit their needs. We share business journeys.
