REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT H awke’s Bay specialists in storage and warehousing Tranzstore Napier, has just finished a busy period as Covid-19 supply chain issues meant that more freight than usual landed for their customers. “Customers have been purchasing their products in bulk to ensure consistency of supply for their clients,” says Tranzstore managing director Scott Lyford signalling the huge workload the company has been experiencing. “Coupled with shipping and supply chain delays, this has meant increased workload and storage requirements to keep up. “In March we achieved a record in terms of containers processed in almost 30 years of our business operations. It was like a tsunami of stock coming in and stock being sent out.” The longevity of the business has meant that it has been able to service customer demand and weather the inconsistencies that have resulted from the effects of Covid-19. The business was originally started by Scott’s uncle Jim in the early 90s. Scott, who has a background in manage- ment, took over the company around ten years ago from his father Allan. Add to this long serving staff members, such as Operations Manager Denny Maxwell who has worked for the company since its inception, and it’s easy to see that Tranzstore Napier has the experience to deal with any - thing thrown its way. Tranzstore Napier’s mainstay of business is arranging collection of containers from the Port of Napier on behalf of clients, transport- ing them to its yard, de-vanning and storing products then shipping them to customers where and as required. It’s a simple formula but one that requires precision and meticulous organisation. The company is an MPI Approved Transitional Fa- cility and has MPI qualified staff to assist with receiving clients’ products. The targeted customer base is the central North Island so this is where goods are mostly delivered but Tranzstore Napier delivers New Zealand wide. The advantages for customers of using the company’s services are clear. “Tranzstore saves our clients time, as once notified of the expected imported goods/con- tainer, we liaise with shipping agents, Port of Napier, MPI and swinglift operators bringing their goods to our Approved Transitional Facility for MPI clearance, documentation and reporting,” says Scott. “We provide efficient order turn around for deliveries to their customers ensuring their products are where they want them, when they want them and in the right condition. “We have a proud record with the Port of Napier for clearing our customer containers and ensuring devanning is within the time parameters. By charging on a daily basis, al- lowing for stock movements inwards and out- wards, it allows our clients to save their capital expenditure and avoid long-term leases. “Customers also benefit from our line haul volume rates as we move approximately 1000T per month, while our storage service means they don’t have to invest in expensive storage facilities themselves.” Based in Ahuriri, Napier, Tranzstore is proudly local and is part of the vibrant Ahuriri Business Association.
