The couple are not surprised that, post-Covid lockdown demand for their services doubled. “We have projects booked up two to three years ahead. Lockdown made us all slow down and think about what was going to be important to invest in and increasingly people have chosen to enhance their immediate en- vironments as a way of adding value to their lives in these uncertain times,” he says. Following completion of a turf manage- ment and amenity qualification, Julian spent seventeen years overseas, four of which were in the United Kingdom, caring for the gardens of Buckingham Palace, and yes, he has had conversations with that Monarch! After time in the UK, where he also worked at the prestigious Hurlingham Club, Julian moved to Bermuda, to be the Project Manager and oversee the build and installation of the landscape of an exclusive golf club and exten- sive villa/hotel development. Being able to take a project from inspira- tion, conception and design detail, through the necessary consenting processes to completion of all elements has been key to their success, Julian and Corinne agree. “It means we have total control of all phases of a project no matter how involved that may be,” says Corinne, who looks after the staff, so- cial media, and all the necessary background functions to ensure projects run smoothly. “Our clients are dealing with one company and it’s our reputation on the line on every project.” Working with Julian and Corinne is a team of 16 highly skilled operatives and while demand would suggest the need to increase the num- ber of staff quickly, Corinne says its essential to be very selective on who is employed. “It’s so important they can work collabora- tively and really understand how important providing the very best quality and detail is. It also means when you take on more staff, you have to have more equipment and there’s a lot of training involved.” South Pacific Landscapes is currently in- volved in mnay exciting projects , including the design and landscape of a historic Homestead in Havelock North set in 5.5ha of grounds, and the design and landscaping of a new private hospital to be built, Kaweka Health.
