80 | Inspirational pool design sees firm scoop top award T he achievements continue for mul- ti-award winning pool builder Narellan Pools Waikato, with the company practi- cally showered with awards at the 2020 Pool and Spa Association of New Zealand (SPASA) awards, including the coveted Pool of the Year award for a largeswimming pool and land- scaping project in Hamilton. Narellan Pools Waikato has been building some of the Waikato’s most stunning inground fibreglass pools for nearly 20 years. Owners John and Jacque Patterson are both passionate about producing a top quality product and turning their clients’ dreams into reality. John is a qualified plumber and expert in pool installation who enjoys working on challenging sites. He has installed a number of pools at Fijian resorts, and these have been highlights of his pool building career. One of these projects won Narellan Pools Waikato the International Project of the Year award 2020 Pool and Spa Association of New Zealand awards. Jacque’s background is accounting and administration and she oversees the day to day operations of Narellan Pools Waikato. She is proud to have been named Narellan Pools Business Woman of the Year, and for Narellan Pools Waikato to have been named Business of the Year on multiple occasions at Narellan Pools own internal awards. “To be also recognised by an independent organisation like the SPASA is a huge achieve- ment of which we are very proud,” she says. “We had a really great year last, year, win- ning Business of the Year with Narellan, and six different categories at the SPASA awards.” The residential project which scooped awards for the Pool of the Year, the Resi- dential Water Feature of the Year, and the Residential Lighting Feature of the Year was a big and exciting project for the Narellan Pools Waikato team. “Our clients were looking for more of a wa- ter feature than a pool, so this project was all about feature lighting and water movement.” T Kelly Deeks The pool sits within a deck which Narellan Pools also built, and had to be cantilevered four to five metres above ground to make space for a significant amount of plumbing and electrical services to be installed under- neath the deck. The highly detailed project required the involvement of a number of different subcon- tractors, which Narellan Pools coordinated and project managed for its clients. For plumber John, the extensive use of water features, including laminar jets and coloured bubbler jets made the project a real highlight. “The result is a stunning outdoor area and enhanced aesthetics which have inspired many of our new clients,” Jacque says. “We are delighted to have delivered another high quality project and a wonderful experience for our clients.” The Narellan Pools Group is an iconic global swimming pool brand established more than 50 years ago. South Pacific Landscapes - the complete service T from page 79 Asked what he considers to have been the most significant shifts in how clients view outdoor spaces, particularly in residential situations, Julian says, gone are the days when there was a separation between indoor and outdoor. “These days, our clients want a seamless transition between inside and out. Spaces around a home are considered like additional living rooms, complete with fire-places. It’s like an outdoor room, with tiling, lighting and they want low to no maintenance.” That desire to not have to input hugely into continued maintenance of garden spaces has brought in a shift toward use of more exotic species that maintain their size and form longer. Even in the use of artificial grasses, the tech- nologies have become so sophisticated that they are now a popular option. With a nod to promoting sustainability, the company has moved to using electric tools.
