BUILDING S haping lives and communities is at the heart of Maple Build’s reason for being. Based in South Wairarapa Maple Build Ltd is the young building company founded by Zac and Sadie Prestidge in 2014. Zac says shaping lives and communities takes many forms and is something he and Sadie are both passionate about. “For the client I’m really keen on seeing them have their dreams realised and to get a really positive result, not just sold something that’s not fit for what they really wanted. “So that is all about helping to shape a cli- ent’s life through their built environment. “ A key thing for me is our team. While projects come and go, you still have your team and it is significant for me to be able to foster a great working environment where the guys are happy to come to work and do interesting work that contributes to society in a meaning- ful way.” One of the drivers for Zac and Sadie starting the business was to create a vehicle that could be used to help other people. “At its core, helping other people and those who might be struggling comes down to our Christian beliefs. “When we had the opportunity to start our own business we realised we could provide some meaningful employment to people who might otherwise struggle to find work. We could actually make this count for more than a money making venture, which has never been a driver for us, though making money is obviously important.” Zac relates the story about one of his first apprentices who had been doing a lot of care work in supportive living arrangements. He wanted to be a builder but could only work part time. While there are challenges doing an apprenticeship part time, Zac saw a great opportunity and signed him up. “Others have had more challenging back- grounds and needed an opportunity to reset their lives. Just having a supportive work en- vironment allows them to take the time they need to work through any personal battles they might be going through, with a good team of work mates around them.” In addition to shaping the lives of its clients and team, Maple Build also partners with Habitat for Humanity in the Home for a Home Scheme. “As Maple Build we have committed to donate the cost of an overseas Habitat home for each new home we build in New Zealand. So it is about seeing people’s lives shaped for the better.” While Maple Build was originally established in Wellington, Zac and Sadie took the business to Featherston in 2016, where it has become a well established business operating predom- inantly in the busy and ever popular South Wairapapa. “Historically we’ve done mostly renovations, which has been really good in being able to train the team. A renovation builder is a really good builder. But most of our work over the next couple of years will be new housing. “We’re really keen on higher performing energy efficient homes and providing good quality housing stock. Our next project will be a fully certified passive home and our current has many of the features and systems you would see in a passive house.” CONTACT US TODAY ON admin@waispark.co.nz 0800 452 769 - Commercial & Residential - New Homes - Alterations & Repairs - Lighting - Security Systems Registered Electrician specialising in: NEW AND RE-ROOF SPECIALISTS - FREE QUOTES - • 027 287 6633 • WWW.ATROOFING.CO.NZ • ATROOFINGNZ @ GMAIL.COM PROUD TO SUPPORT MAPLE BUILD
