The most recent acquisition is Summerland Express Freight, which was acquired by Booth’s Group Logistics in June. With a fleet of 100 trucks and employing 150 staff across 10 locations, the major South Island logistics operator will round out Booth’s geographic spread and provide its customers with a more seamless network nationwide, says Dallas. He says three key leadership staff appointments – including his - will help to drive growth at a wider group level. Dallas joined the team earlier this year bringing with him extensive experience in the freight sector both in New Zealand and overseas. His career pathway has included holding a number of senior leadership roles including those within Goodman Fielder, Halls Transport, and TIL/Move. Dallas says he has been most impressed by Booth’s ‘an do, will do’ attitude. “The quality of people and service offering really does emanate from this tagline across the whole team from administration to drivers, owner operators and warehousing.” In July Clive Jones is set to join Booth’s as group commercial manager. He has over 30 years experience in the transport section including most recently as general manager of MTD Trucks, New Zealand’s sole distributor for Volvo trucks and buses, as well as Mack trucks. Dallas says that Clive’s long-term relationships inside the industry both here in New Zealand and worldwide will be invaluable. Dean Aldred has also recently been appointed to the newly created role of chief information officer for the group. With more than 25 years in IT management, Dean joined following eight years with the Sime Darby Commercial Group, New Zealand’s importer for heavy truck brands Hino, UD, Mack and Volvo. Prior to that he worked with leading companies including Dell, Canon and Unisys. Dallas says that Dean will provide the high level IT experience and systems knowledge, which will be important as a key focus is now on investing in data and customer interface technology. A recent example of investment in this area has been in state of the art planning and dispatch software from provider GoFreight allowing increased transparency and information flow to customers.
