| 79 T Sue Russell Covenants at the Rangitahi Peninsula subdivision ensure the highest possible standard of materials and design. Wainui Construction BUILDING Hayden and Hayley Vink established Wainui Construction in 2017 out of a desire to build their own projects in Whaingaroa (Raglan). Carrying environmental, structural engineering, design and project management backgrounds the transition into property development in the sea-side surfing town made perfect sense. “We feel very fortunate to work and bring up our family in Raglan. It’s a very special place, incredible opportunities to engage with the environment in all seasons while maintaining a tight knit community feel despite recent growth“says Hayley. And with a frenetic level of demand for new homes, now that the Rangitahi Peninsula subdivision is well and truly flourishing, Hayley says Wainui Construction has work booked up for the next two years. “Rangitahi is a very special place and with time will become a beautiful environment for those living there to enjoy. The covenants ensure the highest possible standard of materials and design. We’re going to be building our own family home, along with other extended family members in the near future.” While the vast majority of builds at Rangitahi are single dwellings Wainui Construction is building a six apartment precinct just over the road from the subdivisions central admin area and neighbourhood coffee shop. When Business Central spoke with Hayley four of the (130 sq m) apartments, looking north-east over the water toward Raglan town, were sold. The connection with Rangitahi runs deeper than building there. The couple’s other business, Wainui Environmental, has been involved in the designing the current stages of the subdivision, including a small town-centre area and associated amenities that will be established in time. “We have a very good understanding of what the developer intends for residents to experience in this special environment.” Gathering a team of like-minded professionals around them has been central to the company’s success. “We’ve known some of our key staff a very long time and we all carry the same values and enthusiasm into our work. It’s great to have a high level of trust in our team.”” And asked how the journey through COVID times has been Hayley acknowledges that it hasn’t been the easiest of time. “There are high levels of stress in the building sector and when dealing with various suppliers/subcontractors we just have to be as flexible as we possibly can and have enough projects on the go at one time to enable our team to continue to work around shortages.” Hayden and Hayley engage with Tane Cox principal of Hamilton-based Red Architecture. They appreciate his eye for design using interesting combinations of materials and a restrained palette. “‘Tane is forward thinking with new ideas and has a small team in the office and that matches well with our team culture.” Hayley says they trust Tane to provide a design that really suits the environment. “This is a really exciting time to be involved in construction in and around Raglan and we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.” “Rangitahi is a very special place and with time will become a beautiful environment for those living there to enjoy.” Seaside living with a community feel redarchitecture.co.nz 0210 582 140 www.onpointplumbing.co.nz nick@onpointplumbing.co.nz RaglanPlumber Proud to support Wainui Construction Residential and Commercial Air conditioning & Refrigeration Services Hamilton andWaikato Proudly supportingWainui Construction www.chillrite.net.nz flower.power@xtra.co.nz 027 446 0361 or 027 480 9765 Proudly New Zealand family owned
