104 | Historic villa restoration with all the mod cons The 105 year-old Berhampore villa retains the beautiful mouldings and ceiling cornices. SECTION Philp Construction T T Bernadette Cooney Aaron Philp, a Paraparaumu-based builder, brings a wealth of experience and versatility to his craft, with 14 years in the construction industry both locally and internationally before launching his own business three years ago. His company, Philp Construction Ltd, excels in residential renovations of all sizes, serving the Wellington region, including Upper Hutt and Kapiti Coast. As a family-owned and operated business, Aaron and his wife Jenna take pride in offering a comprehensive range of design and build services. Whether it’s renovations, alterations, remodels, or new builds, their expertise spans both the residential and light commercial sectors. Aaron, a licensed and registered builder, ensures that every aspect of a project is meticulously managed, from design and resource consent processes to landscaping, fencing, and decks. Philp Construction has a proven track record in renovating and modernising character homes. One notable project was the transformation of a 1960s Aro Valley apartment. “ This was a design by Hello Home Interiors of Lower Hutt that really captured the space,” says Aaron. “Its new kitchen won a Kitchen of the Month award, and the remodel made a small apartment feel much bigger.” This project showcased the company’s ability to enhance living spaces creatively and efficiently. In Berhampore , Philp Construction are restoring and modernising a 105-year-old, three-bedroom villa family home. “This is an interior restoration with a modern twist. We’ve pulled up all the old sarking and scrum and insulated and put new gib on whilst retaining the beautiful detailing the villas have, all the picture rails and mouldings and ceiling cornices.” In Trentham, Philp Construction recently completed a full interior renovation of a 1950s architecturally designed home. “We’ve gutted the inside of this unique home and modernised it throughout,” Aaron shares. “It’s a really unique, concrete stucco-clad classic brought up to modern standards.” This project exemplifies the company’s ability to update classic homes to meet contemporary living standards. Aaron’s expertise also extends to relocatable homes. He successfully managed a project for his sister, relocating a 260 square metre brick house to Canterbury. “The bricks were removed, the skeleton was transported in four parts, and I realigned its placement on a new foundation, bolted it down, and ensured it could be reclad with its bricks,” he recounts. This project underscores the company’s capability in handling complex and unique building challenges. Aaron’s journey to business ownership began with a pre-trade course at Weltec at 17, followed by an apprenticeship building Lockwood Homes. He then spent two years in Vancouver, Canada, working on high-end residential renovations. “It was a great learning experience to see how they build over there,” Aaron says. “I was fortunate to work on high-end properties, including a $7.5 million renovation with an infinity pool and internal lift shaft.” These experiences abroad enriched Aaron’s skills and broadened his perspective on construction techniques. Upon returning to New Zealand, Aaron worked in the Wellington light commercial sector and later took on a project management role for two years before returning to residential projects. Philp Construction stands out for its designer renovations, alterations, and remodels for homes of all ages and styles. Aaron maintains trusted relationships with “This is an interior restoration with a modern twist. Interestingly, Aaron chooses not to have a social media or online presence. “It’s a conscious choice. I’m not into any of that stuff. To me, building is a personal experience,” he says. “It’s someone’s joy, and if I’m blasting it all over social media, I feel I’m encroaching on someone else’s space.” Philp Construction Ltd combines extensive experience, a commitment to quality, and a personal touch to deliver exceptional results in every project they undertake.< • Residential renovations (kitchen, bathrooms etc) • Extensions • Re-cladding • Fences and decks • Project Management • Consented work +64 27 772 7788 aaron@philpconstruction.com Proudly Supporting Philp Construction Maintenance | Bathroom & Kitchen Renovations | Drainlaying GET IN TOUCH 027 254 3590 contact@oakplumbing.co.nz www.oakplumbing.co.nz
