ARCHITECTURE Cambie Architectural Design T T Kelly Deeks The high level of attention to detail by Hāwera’s Cambie Architectural Design allows both clients and builders to enjoy effective communication and a comprehensive specialist service, with Ryan Cambie and his team staying involved in each project until construction is complete. Ryan and his wife Courtney started Cambie Architectural Design early in 2020 after eight years in the industry. Going into business was daunting but Courtney’s support and encouragement gave Ryan the confidence he needed to take this great step forward. One of Ryan’s greatest lessons during his training is one he has utilised throughout his career. “I was taught to always draw plans as though I was building them myself,” he says. “A lot of builders would be able to knock up a house without even looking at a drawing, but as a DIY hacker, I would need a decent set of plans with lots and lots of detail. My mission from the start has been to provide drawings with a higher level of quality and detail.” Ryan’s detailed plans have been praised and appreciated by clients, builders, and council building officers and in the small town of Hāwera, news travels fast. By the time Ryan started Cambie Architectural Design, he already had local builders recommending his services to their clients. He has grown his team with two more designers and an office manager, joining him and Courtney who is charged with ensuring all who engage with Cambie Architectural Design have a great experience. This team has provided immeasurable support for Ryan and Courtney following the tragic loss of their youngest daughter Tilly, three, in an accident at home on January 1 2023. Tilly was an exuberant little girl with tons of character and endless love for her big sister Lainey and her nannas and poppas. Her loss took Ryan and Courtney away from their business and could have taken their business from them, had their caring team not stepped up in support. “To have that support and understanding from our staff and also our clientele at that time was amazing,” Ryan says. “We love to reciprocate for our team with a family-oriented culture that is obliging and supportive of their parental commitments.” Today Cambie Architectural Design specialises in end-to-end, customised architectural design for residential and small commercial projects, for a variety of building types including new homes, alterations and additions, pole sheds, and schools. “We like to be involved in the project from start to finish, not just the drawing side of it,” Ryan says. “We like to see projects progress through the build stage and be available throughout that process for our clients and their builders and if anything needs sorting, we’re happy to sort it.” Cambie Architectural Design is now working on a very exciting commercial project for a large scale new commercial build in Hāwera’s town centre. Working with a local car sales and service outfit and their main contractor and structural engineer, Cambie Architectural Design has designed a new showroom and workshop which is now awaiting compliance and set to start construction towards the end of this year. “We’re more than capable of taking on that sort of variety in our projects. We’re here to turn our clients’ dreams into reality and essentially we’ll design whatever they need.” “We like to be involved in the project from start to finish, not just the drawing side of it.” A/H 06 765 7261 Adan 027 672 3143 Kelly 027 320 4667 www.adanlarsenbuilders.co.nz Proudly supporting Cambie Architectural Design ■ CIVIL ■ STRUCTURAL ■ GEOTECHNICAL info@stanleygray.co.nz www.stanleygray.co.nz
