A passion for steel, combined with technology and inely tuned operational systems have forged a winning formula for family owned and operated Cambridge Steel Fabricators and Engineers, proving once again that Cambridge truly is the Home of Champions. Since purchasing Cambridge Steel Fabricators and Engineers in 2009, Hayden and Amanda Burke have grown the business from a team of ive to a team of over 70 skilled steel fabricators, erectors, project managers and detailers, while progressively increasing the scale and complexity of projects. “We wanted to focus on being the number one steel construction company in the Waikato. That wasn’t about being the biggest, it was about delivering a quality product. We invested in some new technology and automation that took the manual labour out of cutting and drilling while adding an extra level of accuracy and e iciency. We also invested in work systems, introducing key production tools to help manage pricing, purchasing, material traceability, production management and detailing of shop drawings. It is very important to get the design right at the start of the project, so we invested in systems that provide us with greater quality and a standardised way of working.” Cambridge Steel Fabricators and Engineers were early adopters of the A passion for all things steel Steel Fabrication Certi ication, a quality accreditation which provides their clients with a high level of con idence in the quality of workmanship and management. “Our clients want hassle free steel construction. They want to trust us that we will do a great job and that it will be it for purpose. We want to be proactive in providing solutions to our clients around buildability, because the easier, and more e iciently we can build it the more cost savings to the client. Some of our recent investment has been around how we can ensure we do deliver that experience. For example, we have invested in a Trimble Total Station, which produces a 3D scan of the existing steel work, which is passed onto our design team. This removes the need to manually measure. That technology drives e iciency and accuracy.” While predominantly operating throughout the central North Island, and further a ield as projects are presented, Cambridge Steel Fabricators and Engineers undertake projects for commercial builders and developers, including Apollo Projects. “We take care of all the end-to-end steel construction requirements for a diverse range of purposes, including commercial, industrial, residential, schools and earthquake strengthening,” explains Amanda. “The process includes shop drawings, procurement of materials, fabrication, painting, installation, as well as project management of all those processes.” Cambridge Steel Fabricators and Engineers is also a member of the Sustainable Steel Council of New Zealand, something that Amanda and Hayden are very proud of. “Steel is one of the most recyclable materials in the building trade, it can be used and recycled again and again. We always look at ways in which we can be a good community citizen and be sustainable as a business.” Proudly supportingApollo Projects & the King Country Sports Club
