Based on the Kapiti Coast, at Paraparaumu, Mills Albert Ltd, is very involved in supporting property developers to create wonderful new places for people to live. As is the case with its work with H W Developments, laying down all the civil infrastructure, creating pathways and roads, for residents at Otaki Gardens 90 Lot subdivision near the heart of the historic Otaki township. Paul Ratcli e is Mills Albert’s Contracts Manager. He’s been in this role nearly 5 years and says he enjoys the challenges that come with overseeing management of engaging projects for clients. “We do all the things you can’t see once the roading, kerbing and footpaths have been completed. That’s extremely satisfying work to undertake as we create the future spaces for families to enjoy living in.” Three directors are heavily engaged in the day to day running of the business and its this hands-on approach that Paul says, keeps the company punching well above its weight, delivering results for clients that create oppotunities for repeat business. When Business Central spoke with Paul late April, teams were involved Mills Albert — Creating wonderful spaces in laying down services in subdivisions, undertaking major earthworks for NZTA and some drainage renewal work for local councils. “There’s a lot of work in Greater Wellington going on and we have the skilled teams, the experience and the ability to get the job done, often in quite challenging situations.” And alongside the work in that region, Paul was also busy pricing work in Whanganui and at the Ohakea Air Force Base. Mills Albert Ltd employs upward of 130 people and Paul says the majority of the equipment used is owned by the company. Given the nature of projects the company takes on, Health & Safety is considered paramount and the central value lived daily. “We place a great deal of importance on health and safety operating systems and I’m pleased to say our regular audits evidence the highest possible standards.” Directors David Mills and Lisa Mills-Albert believe in delivering customers with irst-class service no matter how big, small or technically challenging the project is. The company’s General Manager Paul Albert, also a director, leads by example in the operational realm. Services extends across drainage, with registered drain-layers and water reticulation installers, gabion construction and supply of rock to general contracting and equipment hire. Those fortunate enough to work in the business receive the bene its of access to ongoing training to further their careers and to medical insurance, having worked six months continuously. “We know our team is our most valuable asset so we make sure we look after themwell.
