Shed Central BUILDING Shed Central (formerly Shed Boss Taupo) is a well-established construction company specialising in designing and building customised sheds, garages, and barns in the Taupo region. The business is owned and operated by Andrew and Trudi McHale who provide clients with a wide range of services including building design and construction. Trudi says one of the key strengths of Shed Central is an unfailing commitment to providing personalised bespoke solutions to clients. “We understand that every project is unique and we begin the conversation by asking what the client intends to put inside the shed and the budget they are working with before designing gets underway,” says Trudi. While Trudi is based in the office taking care of all the organisational matters, along with a salesperson, Andrew is site-based, overseeing construction from start to finish. Shed Central has a well-established reputation in the industry, thanks to its commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. They use only the best materials and equipment available in the market to ensure that their buildings are durable, reliable, and long-lasting. As testament to that fact, Trudi says when gale force winds accompanying the cyclone reached the region, none of their garages were impacted, other than damage caused by flying parts of other shed on neighbouring properties. “We know our designing and construction Collaboration key to successful project Sheds withstand cyclone delivers an exceptionally strong building, beginning with the use of our unique anchor bolting system that is actually built into the shed. There are no surprises for the client when the shed arrives on site to be constructed.” In addition to their commitment to quality and customer service, Shed Central is also mindful to build as sustainably and environmentally responsible as possible. There is no end to the uses Shed Central sheds offer clients, from sheds and garages, workshop spaces, barns, commercial buildings and rural applications. Sheds can be built to 27m in width, given the design and construction methodology, without the need for additional engineering, but Trudi stresses they are able to build to any size and shape specifically desired by customers. Trudi says generally most business is within the region though they have built large commercial sheds in Ngaruawahia, north of Hamilton and as far south as Plimmerton and Porirua. Shed Central moved on to its current site in December as it had outgrown its space with the couple’s other company McHale Hire. “McHale Hire complements Shed Central with all its machinery to make the job easier.” When Business Central spoke with Trudi the company was engaged in constructing a large trucking shed for a client in Tokoroa. By focusing on good solid construction and getting design elements absolutely as the client wishes, and ensuring project delivery goes smoothly, Trudi and Andrew are proud of the reputation they have gained over the years. The main contractor and the majority of subcontractors were sourced locally supporting the local workforce. Shelter Architects also consciously selected materials such as Abodo timber, Zenith plywood ceiling panels and timber framing from the region. The project also incorporated energy-efficient fittings, mechanical systems, and low waste practices. When the existing terminal is demolished, most of the materials will be recycled, further minimising environmental impact. Paul says that collaboration was key in bringing the Taupo Airport Terminal project to fruition. Shelter Architects worked closely with master carver Delani Brown, photographer Jeremy Bright, TAA chairperson Chris Johnson, Watts Construction director Trevor Watts, client representative Pernille Fletcher, local iwi and hapu representatives, the TDC steering group, and others to weave the stories of the region into the fabric of the building. The terminal features a significant ceramic artwork by Barry Brickell, which was restored and installed to showcase the volcanic history of the area. Delani’s untouched placement of the Mauri stone and rimu further enhance the connection to the local environment, while stunning images of Tauhara and Tongariro National Park leave visitors with no doubt about their geographical location. Shelter Architects has made significant strides since its establishment and services all of New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.More recently in 2022 the ownership structure was modified, creating more autonomous and independent regional offices. Paul says that the collective group maintains strong ties and working relationships resulting in a more modern and dynamic studio. The firm prides itself on its diverse portfolio and refusal to be pigeonholed into specific architectural niches. “We choose to not specialise but rather enjoy the variation in different types of projects, and the clientele, sites, briefs, and budgets that go with that. “Our team’s continuous pursuit of knowledge and innovation empowers us to tackle any architectural challenge and embrace the rich history and future possibilities of building design.” Shelter Architects E&J Contractors are proud to support Shelter Architects • SHEDS • WORKSHOPS • BARNS • COMMERCIAL • INDUSTRIAL • RURAL 07 378 2828 sales@shedcentral.co.nz 07 376 9333 info@ezisteel.co.nz www.ezisteel.co.nz EziSteel is Proud to support Shed Central
