| 87 Maple Build Maple Build has developed a passion for creating high performance buildings. BUILDING Beneath every good building lies a solid foundation and to meet the new building code now in force in New Zealand most of those foundations’ edges must be insulated. That’s where Beccote’s ibre-reinforced and waterproof plaster coating system comes in. The waterproof, impact resistant, Beccrete Base system used for protecting insulated foundation edges is a layer about 5 mls thick which o ers an attractive, cost-e ective natural plaster inish. It was developed by Bruce Cameron, a highly experienced,self-confessed plaster nerd, to be the ideal product for insulated foundation edges, both in performance & ease of application. As the name suggests it remains a cementitious product but, just like the Romans who put volcanic ash into their concrete 2000 years ago, to make it better, Bruce combines the best mineral additives with the latest polymer technology, backed by good science, to develop the product he knows gives him the lexibility and durability he wants which he couldn’t ind on the shelf. Also known for his artisan surface inishes, Bruce has developed Beccrete Micro, a micro topping system that provides an attractive seamless plastered inish to many substrates (both walls & loors). He recently used both systems (Beccrete Base, & Beccrete Micro) on a two-storey house which featured on last year’s series of Grand Designs. On the Next level in foundations outside he plastered the Maxraft Foundation, while on the inside he micro topped both the bathroom & ensuite loors and walls, as well as the entire ground loor. “Instead of tiling for example you can do a micro topping system which is a seamless plaster inish with no joins and it gives you a lot of design lexibility. It’s all related to the trowel work on it which can give you di erent patterns depending on what you want and you can have essentially any colour you want as well,” says Bruce. Plastering Max-Raft Foundations’ edges nevertheless remains Beccote’s core business, and Bruce takes pride in his work as he applies the product he trusts to perform exactly as he has designed it to, even if it goes largely unnoticed. “It’s ironic really that so much e ort goes into something where only about 150mm is visible, but proper waterproo ing is a critical part of these foundation systems and I enjoy giving them the same attention to detail and focus on quality that I do any other plaster inish I do, visible or not,” says Bruce. A member of both NZ Master Painters & NZ Master Plasterers Systems, Bruce is based in Palmerston North but ranges North Island wide applying his sophisticated Beccrete Base plaster system to give insulated foundations the protective inish they need. 027 711 2047 bruce@beccote.co.nz . .
