90 | Warner Construction Ltd T T Karen Phelps Major investment for construction firm The new Taupō facility will enable Warner Construction to grow its presence in Taupō,. CONSTRUCTION Warner Construction is making major investment in its facilities on the back of the growth of its clients in the regions it operates in. At present two new 1000sqm workshops are under construction in Taupō and New Plymouth, both due to be operational mid 2023. Warner Construction manager in Taupō, Grant Dudson, says the new facility in Rakaunui Road, Taupō will create numerous efficiencies, enabling Warner Construction to complete more jobs to service its clients’ needs, particularly in the geothermal industry. The Taupō division was originally set up in 2012 during the Te Mihi Power Station Project for Contact Energy and has grown the geothermal division of the business completing many major projects for Contact Energy and Mercury in the central region since. A permanent office and workshop was opened at 32 Manuka Street in November 2014 and the premises were expanded further to include an additional workshop in February 2016. Started in November, construction of the new facility, which will be around six times the size of the present facility and it will include significant plant such as a ten tonne gantry crane and state of the art weld and extraction system along with the purchase of a new mobile 28 tonne TIDD crane. “The facility will be purpose built for the geothermal work we do - pipework and general engineering. Our clients’ expansion into geothermal has created a large engineering sector in Taupō,” explains Grant. The new workshop will complement the company’s small onsite office at the Tauhara Power Station, a 174MW geothermal steam turbine power station that will be Contact Energy’s sixth geothermal power station in the area. Warner Construction is laying cross-country pipelines for the project. Warner Construction is also on the cusp of starting a similar project at the Te Huka power station. Grant says the new Taupō facility will enable Warner Construction to grow its presence in Taupō in a similar way to what it has achieved already in Taranaki, which now employs over 100 staff. The new 1000sqm facility under construction in Bell Block, New Plymouth, will cater to this on-going growth. Both new facilities allow Warner Construction to continue to grow its specialisation in geothermal pipelines and associated projects in the Central North Island, delivering great quality and value to clients’ projects. Warner Construction is a privately owned and operated company. Since its establishment in 1985 the company has developed a range of specialist engineering disciplines, which include high pressure steel pipelines, mechanical piping and fabrication, pressure vessels, structural engineering, civil engineering and bulk transport for work both in Taranaki and throughout New Zealand. Grant says the company places quality and safety at the forefront of every project it undertakes and has held AS/NZS ISO 9001 since 2005. In 2022 Warner Construction also gained ISO 45001 Certification in Health and Safety. A dedicated Quality Assurance Manager, and a full-time Health and Safety Adviser supported by CBIP inspection staff, are part of the team. Grant says that Warner Construction’s continued growth is due to the fact it has built a strong reputation for delivering a high-quality finished product, along with supporting documentation of the highest standard. He says that the company’s culture of excellence has taken many years to establish and has enabled it to attract and retain staff that share the same passion for quality. Over the years Warner Construction has successfully diversified into several other facets of engineering. The company has tendered, won, and managed complex multidiscipline contracts that have involved mechanical and civil engineering, instrument and electrical, insulation, painting and building work. Grant says that this has created a multi-skilled engineering workforce that produces mechanical and civil engineering jobs of the highest quality, enhancing Taranaki’s position as a leader in the engineering and construction sector. “The facility will be purpose built for the geothermal work we do - pipework and general engineering. Our clients’ expansion into geothermal has created a large engineering sector in Taupō.” AEC have been privileged to be a supplier of critical components toWarner’s on the pipeline project 07 929 8539 | info@aec1989.co.nz www.aec1989.co.nz | 19 Matai Street, Tauhara, Taupo Specialising in Fabrication, Machining and Site Works Pro Trade Supplies is Taupo’s specialist power tool and engineering supply store.
