The company is looking closely at what the next 40 years looks like for Taranaki. From humble beginnings as a one-truck transport operation, Taranaki-based Symons Group has grown to be a leader in the industry with an expansive offering. With a passion for trucks, Graham Symons established Symons Transport in 1984, starting with a small farm shed and a truck over 40 years ago. Today, the company has grown to deliver a one-stop shop logistics solution, with four successful business units focussed on transport, warehousing, commercial property, and waste remediation services. The transport fleet is nearing 60 vehicles with heavy investment in high performance motor vehicles focused on productivity and efficiency, highly safe vehicles, managing director Dean Eggers told Business Central. Symons Transport was the first company to adopt auto-sense fatigue management safety technology, which is now seen being adopted across the industry. The company employees more than 100 staff at peak times - just one way it supports the community, Dean said. “We believe in the village principals of business and very much supporting local.” The company also provides support for schools, sports clubs, junior rugby and a number of charity organisations throughout Taranaki. The company is looking closely at what the next 40 years looks like for Taranaki. “We will maintain our investment in supporting the oil and gas industry, we are looking at opportunities in the agriculture, horticulture and biofuels sectors. That’s where we see Taranaki’s green chutes of the future.” Dean said. He said the company’s “fundamentally old-fashioned Kiwi values” around doing a quality job and a can-do attitude were what set it apart. “We are old-fashioned in the sense that if a client has a need, we provide the solution, and when we are called on to provide it, we do it. “There’s nothing to complicated about the ethos of the company.” The company was involved in everything energy-based in the region and worked with every player, which he put down to the company’s commitment to the health and safety of its people, fleet and property.
