Over the years it has become a leading provider of steel framing. As the residential housing market has softened the commercial side of Taupobased steel framing specialist EziSteel’s business has strengthened. It is working on a number of commercial projects, in particular storage unit facilities including for Shed Central and KiwiSpan in various parts of New Zealand. It also completed the steel framing for the Ebbett car dealership building on Te Ngae Road in Rotorua. But despite the growth in the commercial market it continues to service residential customers from architectural homes to smaller jobs down to garages for customers who just want somewhere to put their quad bikes, says Eddie Eagles, owner of EziSteel. The company was established by Eddie in 2007. Over the years it has become a leading provider of steel framing, trusses and joists for the New Zealand building market with its production facilities utilising the latest Scottsdale computer-controlled CNC roll forming machines to produce precision-made frames and trusses. “One of our distinguishing features is our longevity and expertise in the steel framing industry. Also we treat each job the same, no matter how large or small. Our work is largely by word of mouth,” explains Eddie. As testament to this some clients have been with the business since its inception such as Shed Central. “We have been dealing with Shed Central for many years. It’s a very long term relationship.” Eddie says more and more people are understanding the benefits of steel framing over traditional timber construction when looking to build. He says the increasing acceptance of steel framing in New Zealand is evident in the industry’s adaptation, with major manufacturers like James Hardy and Winstone Wall Boards now providing fixing details for steel framing on their websites. GIB has also developed a bracing calculator specifically for steel framing and offers fire-rated systems for steel frame walls and load-bearing floor/ceiling systems. Steel framing contains no toxic chemicals and won’t rot or support mould or mildew growth. Steel frames have also been used to achieve allergen-free and dust-free interiors. Steel is fire-resistant, and doesn’t shrink or move with climate changes. “The roll forming technology behin steel- framing gives a high degree of dimensional accuracy, enabling consistently straight walls, square corners and an overall superior finish. The exactness that comes from building this way helps follow-on trades to fit internal linings, kitchens and other cupboards,” explains Eddie.
