76 | BUILDING Davie Construction and Marcus Lawry T T Kim Newth Lifting the standard, creating quality homes Kyle is passionate about lifting quality in the local housing market. Levin-based Davie Construction is making a positive impact in the local housing market, building high-quality new homes and renovating existing homes to give them a new lease of life. Founder Kyle Davie says both his dad and stepdad were builders so he naturally gravitated to the same profession, completing his building apprenticeship after leaving school. In 2017, he launched Davie Construction and now leads a team of four other young builders. Kyle is passionate about lifting quality in the local housing market. Other key aspirations include wanting to carve out time to give back to the community and finding ways to empower others by sharing his knowledge. Davie Construction’s projects often start with an existing home on a spacious section. That home is then relocated and renovated, freeing up land for new housing development. Jim credits mentorship from Jim Dodd of Property-CEO for giving him the confidence to forge joint ventures with project partners who share his vision. “We’re making best use of resources, creating more homes for Levin while lifting the standard of housing in town as well,” says Kyle. “We’re getting really good feedback from our open homes. People are saying they are so impressed with what we’re doing.” Davie Construction’s latest housing development is in Gordon Place, Levin. Two existing older homes were purchased - at 9 and 11 Gordon Place - and one was then relocated behind the other before both were renovated to a high standard. Each now has a new double garage. Four new homes are now also nearing completion on the section previously occupied by the relocated home. Gordon Place is located between desirable Kennedy Place and upmarket Claremont Rise in Levin and close to where the new SH1 expressway will enter Levin on the town’s northern side. It opens up exciting opportunities for those regularly commuting to and from Wellington. “This is now my 10th housing subdivision and I love this location – Gordon Place has always been a well-respected street in Levin at the top end of town with good quality housing on either side. I’m really pleased to have renovated two existing bungalows there, both good solid homes. It’s much more environmentally friendly to upgrade older homes like these, rather than demolish them. We had such a great response and both sold fast. “Now we’re close to completing our new housing subdivision, targeting a high standard and a high end fit-out. We think these will be great for an investor, a professional working person or couple, or perhaps someone living by themselves who wants neighbours around them for added safety.” Set out in two duplexes, the four new homes make a stylish contemporary statement in Gordon Place.
