The Hire Industry Association of New Zealand (HIANZ) has been in existence for over 42 years and is the peak body and professional membership association for the hire industry in New Zealand. Winning the accolade is something Brent Smith Trailers’ owner takes in his stride, putting the award win down to the company’s trademark quality and great team. “We’ve been a long term supporter of the Hire Industry Association of New Zealand. To get recognised like this is significant, not only for me but also for my staff,” says Brent. “At Brent Smith Trailers we don’t take shortcuts. It’s my name on the company so it’s important to build the best. It was building a trailer for his local surf club at the age of 19 that first got Brent interested in trailers. Starting in a small workshop the company now operates from large manufacturing premises located on Brent’s own farm in Bunnythorpe. This has meant it has largely stayed under the radar despite being a major employer in the region with around 24 staff. Brent says that Brent Smith Trailers is fortunate to have a great team with all staff trained and ticketed in all relevant sections of the business. From the approximately 2000sqm manufacturing facility virtually everything is undertaken onsite apart from galvanising the trailers. To produce the best the best equipment is essential and Brent Smith Trailers has topnotch plant. Only top quality new componentry and steel is used and every trailer is totally hot dipped galvanised. Brent says the focus is on providing the customer with everything they need and complete transparency regarding pricing. For example all trailers have a registration and WOF for one year and LED lights. All tandem trailers have equalising suspension and jockey wheels and all heavy-duty single trailers also come with jockey wheels. In house transportation is offered for large orders. Although the company has a wide range of trailers for farm bikes, light commercial, heavy commercial and hydraulic tippers it also custom builds trailers for specific requirements. Other products include canopies/ horse floats, ute decks and log splitters. The company also offers componentry parts from its trailer shop such as jockey wheels, hydraulic braking systems, hubs and stubs, running gear, couplings, boat rollers and winches. It can also supply a range of flotation tyres and rims for farm bike trailers etc. Brent says the company is proud to offer a two-year warranty on its trailers against defects in materials or workmanship. Brent Smith Trailers caters to the commercial and farming sectors. Clients include Higgins, Downer, Fulton Hogan, Hirepool, Norwood and local councils to name but a few. Trailers are sold throughout New Zealand and overseas with buyers from New Caledonia and the South Pacific Islands.
