JOINERY Sunshine Joinery Getting the balance right between function and style in a new kitchen can require an experienced eye. The design team at Sunshine Joinery provide that and more, and have been designing, building and installing beautiful kitchens around Napier for 17 years. Owner Rick Martin started the company as a solo operator in 2005 and now employs a team of 13 that are producing an average of three kitchens a week under the one roof. The emphasis is always on quality and that comes from using top tier materials and excellent workmanship. “We’re designing and building innovative kitchens for new builds and renovations as well as commercial fitouts. We do everything we can to ensure a client’s vision for their kitchen or business is brought to life and that the process of doing so is as smooth and painless as possible,” says Rick. “Most people come to us once they have their concept drawing for a new build and we get involved from there. Our kitchens are truly custom-built and our designers can turn a client’s ideas into reality. We use CAD, a computer software which provides elevation and three-dimensional views so clients can view their kitchen from all angles. Once a design is finalised, clients will choose fittings from the showroom. Our designers can put together some options so it’s not too overwhelming.” “To ensure there’s a human element to a design, we ask clients how they prepare their food and what they like to cook, and if they like to have their friends socialising in the kitchen when they come around or is their kitchen their sanctuary,” he says. The process of drawing up plans to fitting out a kitchen can be as quick as six weeks, although some projects can take a couple of years by the time decisions are made and a new build is complete. While good design hasn’t changed since Rick set up shop, some new products have become standard issue such as soft close drawers and adjustable feet on cabinetry bases. Carcasses are stronger with solid backs and are built to fit individual specs. Melamine and painted MDF fronts remain popular choices along with a huge variety of stone and formica tops. “Trends are always slowly changing and there’s plenty of new gadgets around, and continual improvements to hardware such as space towers and Blum drawer systems,” says Rick. An intelligent design with functional spaces tends not to date as quickly as an across the counter kitchen. With a custom-built kitchen, there is also plenty of opportunity for adding luxurious details that take a kitchen to the next level. Covid driven supply chain issues have been the norm over the past two years but a positive side to the pandemic has been people focusing more on their homes and making them more liveable. This has inspired plenty of renovation work as well as new builds. Rick’s team are also completing complex and quality commercial joinery installations around Napier. These require collaboration with businesses, designers, architects, suppliers and other trades to ensure the fit out comes together as specified and on time. Rick’s wife Felicity is an integral part of the Sunshine Joinery team and is in charge of finances. The couple are joined by two kitchen designers, a detailer, office administrator, and nine talented joiners. “We have a great working environment, it’s like having a big family. It’s really enjoyable to come to work each day.” From $75,000 +GST Phone: 04 526 8589 Email: Proform@xtra.co.nz Website: www.proformnz.co.nz CNC ROUTERS AND MACHINES Proform manufactures an ef cient, cost effective, CNC Nesting range of machinery.
