REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT In the realm of heavy haulage, BR Satherley Transport has stood as a stalwart for over two decades, building up its presence and becoming a frontrunner in its field. Now it is marking a new era with significant investments in purpose-built facilities. The company has recently unveiled a new South Island workshop in North Canterbury on the outskirts of Christchurch and is currently in the process of constructing a similar purpose-built facility in the North Island in Hastings, due to be completed in 2024. “The South Island facility, which has been completed on the current site, is equipped with modern hoists and new office facilities,” says company chief financial officer and health and safety manager Breeze Adams. “The 700sqm workshop allows for more efficient servicing of in-house vehicles, a marked improvement over the previous servicing facility”. The Napier facility will shift locations from Onekawa in Napier to Whakatu, Hastings, and will become a central hub for operations. It will be slightly larger, emphasising the company’s commitment to providing high-quality vehicles and reliable services for its clients. Breeze says the investment in new facilities will include implementing innovative technology, further enhancing efficiencies. The company is currently trialling a new software system to streamline operations and jobs will be seamlessly managed through this digital system, eliminating the need for paperwork for drivers. From tracking kilometres and providing photo documentation of delivery locations, the software, which larger customers can log into to view their jobs, also promises to enhance transparency. Barry Satherley, a truck driver with a passion for heavy haulage, founded the company over 20 years ago. The company he created today boasts a stellar reputation for its commitment to excellence in the transport of heavy loads throughout New Zealand. BR Satherley Transport offers a myriad of heavy haulage services specialising in transporting payloads of up to 100 tonnes. The fleet also services a smaller clientele with it purpose built ten-wheeler rigid trucks capable of handling payloads of up to 20 tonnes indicating the company’s versatility in meeting diverse client needs. It is also currently investing in a Hiab vehicle so that it can cater to all customers’ needs. “BR Satherley Transport boasts one of the most extensive ranges of rows of eight trailers in New Zealand, providing it with a competitive edge in handling, particularly with large scale projects, offering efficiency and precision,” says company transport manager Matt Braithwaite. With an established reputation for flexibility, organisation, and customer service focus, BR Satherley Transport has nurtured long-term relationships with clients, some dating back to the inception of the business. Over the years the company has successfully tackled diverse projects including recently transporting the first of its kind Volvo R100 dump trucks off the ports, dismantling and transporting large mining dump trucks for Terracat and facilitating the transportation of wind turbines in the North Island. Breeze says a unique aspect of BR Satherley Transport is its status as a tight knit business. Barry’s continued personal involvement in the company, along with his daughter Stacey, who manages the North Island office, underscores the family-oriented ethos of BR Satherley Transport. A skilled team of around 30 staff, including Class 1 and 2 pilots, are employed over both offices with some staff offering over 30 years’ experience. Barry regularly drives, especially on the large-scale jobs, providing experience and guidance. Breeze says the company’s new facilities are expected to enable the team to undertake more jobs to meet the growing demand as well as result in higher quality vehicles and enhanced reliability for clients’ projects as BR Satherley Transport positions itself for sustained growth.
