74 | DEVELOPMENT AHS Group “While our core business will always be in the medical development field these types of projects have come off the back of those as skills cross over. It also allows us to diversify.” Townhouse project fits with skillset T T Karen Phelps AHS Group’s first residential development is a seven-townhouse project in Morrinsville for Kainga Ora. AHS Group was started to fast track highly detailed medical and laboratory fit outs. Those skills proved so valuable to clients, resulting in huge company growth that it has led to AHS Group also translating its skills into other commercial and residential projects including its first residential development in Anzac Avenue Morrinsville. The seven-townhouse development has been sold to Kāinga Ora, which had a key role in the design of the project to ensure it met its criteria. AHS Group managing director Peter Davenport says the project is typical of the type of builds that AHS Group thrives on: challenging, requiring innovative thinking and high levels of skill and collaboration. “While our core business will always be in the medical development field these types of projects have come off the back of those as skills cross over. It also allows us to diversify,” he says. AHS Group takes on the entire project from start to finish – design, management and construction. It has the ability to do it all from design and architecture, consulting and management, and construction resources offering clients the complete package. The company employs a team of around 70 including in-house design capabilities. “We work with our clients to apply our wealth of experience and skills to design, manage and construct their project, engaging with them from concept to completion,” he says. “As we do everything in-house this results in efficiencies and the elimination of problems as, for example, our design and construction team work together early on in projects.” The skills AHS Group offers has led it to operate further afield, than its bases in Waikato and Bay of Plenty, throughout New Zealand. A recently completed pet food processing plant in Taumarunui is a good example. AHS built several new buildings and carried out extensive upgrades to the existing structures. The resulting new main extruder hall is approximately 1700m2 with the apex of the roof standing at 18 metres in height. AHS also managed the design, procurement and installation management of the US built production line. “The new buildings are custom made to fit the many pieces of factory plant sourced from all over the world. “The finishes are hygiene grade Polypanel walls and ceilings and the platforms and steel work has been coated with epoxy finishes. This project really demonstrates that our team is more than capable of delivering on any challenge.” A current project that combines the company’s commercial, medical and residential skills is the Cambridge Health Hub. It will contain a medical centre, day-stay hospital, specialist suites, a rehabilitation hub, hydrotherapy pool, pharmacy, dentist, optometrist, audiologist, gymnasium and a cafe. A pet hospital will provide veterinary surgical services. The project will also include 70 houses. AHS Group is currently working through the detailed design of the re-development of the Franklin Council buildings into a Pukekohe Health Hub. With a mass of collective experience within the team, AHS Group has made huge leaps into the industry, securing its place amongst the best in the business, says Peter. “We pride ourselves on high quality workmanship and delivery, never compromising on quality or service. “Our team is proud of each and every project we have completed and aim to build on these experiences every day.” Plumbing | Gasfitting Drainlaying | Backflow Prevention 0800 678 475 • www.optiplumb.co.nz WCL Group are proud to support AHS Group SUPPLY • FIX • STOP • PAINT SCAFFOLD CONSTRUCTION SPECIALISTS COMMERCIAL, RESIDENTIAL & INDUSTRIAL SCAFFOLDING PROPPING & SHORE LOADING | HEALTH & SAFETY | EQUIPMENT HIRE/SALES Covering Waikato & BOP Region 022 043 2619 gary@scaffolding.org.nz www.summitscaffoldingwaikato.co.nz
