Queenwood Property “We sold our first development through a real estate firm, but now we’re using a direct from developer approach.” Residential real estate development company Queenwood Property is regenerating Hamilton’s Queenwood Avenue with brand new, turnkey townhouse developments with a focus on warm, dry, easy to maintain homes in a great location. Queenwood Property is a family business started in 2018 by father and son team Donald and Curtis McCorquindale. While Donald has always had an interest in property development and has spent many years developing lifestyle blocks in the semi-rural Waikato, Curtis earned a degree from the University of Otago’s School of Surveying prior to starting Queenwood Property. Donald and Curtis went on to purchase their first section on Queenwood Avenue, strategically chosen for its location and close proximity to the Waikato River, parks, and shops. They removed the existing home and developed four three-bedroom luxury townhouses, all on their own freehold titles and with garaging. “We sold our first development through a real estate firm, but now we’re using a direct from developer approach,” Curtis says. “It helps us to see what the market is looking for. We soon learned the area is very popular with downsizers, so our next development on Queenwood Ave, completed in November 2020, was designed specifically with the retiree market in mind.” Queenwood Property’s second project was three, three-bedroom, two-bathroom townhouses on their own freehold titles with double garaging. Now in the midst of their third development, Queenwood Property is building four two-bedroom, two-bathroom homes, purposefully designed to capture the sun, and all in the same great location. Constructed with 2.55m ceiling heights throughout and 2.2m tall internal grooved doors, the feeling of space inside these 90sqm homes belie their compact footprint, with open plan kitchen, living, and dining spaces with expansive windows and doors providing seamless flow to east facing outdoor entertainment areas with low maintenance landscaping. Again these homes are targeted towards the downsizing or professional market, who can enjoy the many benefits of easy living without compromising on style. These homes have been designed by Hamilton architecture studio Architecto, which is also now designing Queenwood Property’s fourth development. Curtis says Architecto DEVELOPMENT T T Kelly Deeks takes a pragmatic approach and listens carefully to his and Donald’s design requirements. The homes are being built by Hamilton’s Euro Construction, which has built all of Queenwood Property’s developments, and Curtis says the company always goes the extra mile and picks up on the smallest of details to make sure everything is completed as specified and to the highest possible standard. “They are committed to the whole process,” Curtis says. “They even work with us to complete all of the landscaping.” Once this current development is complete, Queenwood Property is heading straight to Chartwell to start its fourth project, the development of four townhouses, two with two bedrooms and two with three. Curtis is now sharing his property development experience with other landowners who are looking to develop but not sure where to start. “I’ve learned quite a bit over the years about how to get started and the process involved.
