The company won Excellence in the Maintenance and Management of Assets Including Routine Maintenance Projects for its work in the Hastings District Council’s Rural Pavement and Corridor Maintenance Contract. Initially a four-year contract, finishing in June 2022, the project rolled over to June 2023 and involves general maintenance of the rural network road corridor, inclusive of everything within that corridor fence to fence. With the contract coming up to its final year, entering the project in the local CCNZ awards was a good opportunity to showcase the project, and benchmark it amongst the best of the best, says Fulton Hogan East Coast Regional Manager Andrew Harvey. “There’s twelve hundred kilometres of roading to look after, and it is a challenging roading network. It’s the whole transport network, so we look after the mowing, and chemical spraying, drainage, roading, street sweeping, footpaths and cycle ways. “It is a major project, some of which is quite routine with a regular cycle of mowing and spraying. But the biggest challenge is the weather, reacting to storm events. “The Hawke’s Bay is the fruit bowl of the North Island, and there’s a lot of collection and transportation of goods across the roading network, so it is important that the network is operational.” The Hastings District Council’s Rural Pavement and Corridor Maintenance Contract involves general maintenance of the rural network road corridor, inclusive of everything within that corridor fence to fence.
