We can provide lump sum costings all up on the projects, a turnkey process. This eliminates risk from the client’s perspective and makes things easy as they deal with one person.” He says the fact that Coresteel invests heavily in research and development also means greater accuracy and speed of construction. Computer programmes calculate accurately at both the design and manufacturing stages of the process. Two exclusive steel structural building options add to the offering. The patented Bracketless Portal System is constructed using cold formed flat Z450 galvanised coil and offers typical clear spans ranging from 9m to 30m, with no obtrusive knee or apex braces. It is ideal for smaller projects, says Geoff. DonoBeam allows building possibilities to be further expanded. It is a tapered box beam manufactured by welding two folded halves of steel plate together to form a box. Geoff says it’s specifically tapered to reduce the amount of steel needed for any given design, without reducing structural integrity With its total solution offering it’s no surprise that Coresteel Manawatu has built a reputation for delivering unique design and build solutions for residential, commercial and industrial buildings and farm and lifestyle sheds, catering to a spectrum of diverse clients and sectors. A couple of projects completed recently for NZ Van Lines showcase what Coresteel Manawatu can achieve. NZ Van Lines had outgrown its premises in Palmerston North and required something larger to expand its operations and help facilitate growth. Coresteel Buildings Manawatu was commissioned to design and build a large warehouse and office solution, tailored to this client’s needs. Geoff says that when it came to the initial design phase, NZ Van Lines had a specific vision for their new building. “The team were very precise with what they wanted. This helped immensely in the initial concept plans,” says Geoff. Internal space was a crucial element of the design brief. The new build called for plenty of warehouse space to house not just the existing storage modules and containers, but to allow NZ Van Lines to increase capacity for storage as the business grew. A specific knee height of 8.9m was required to store these containers. In addition, variable bay widths to suit the large 7m wide roller doors, precast concrete for lasting durability, and a cantilevered canopy with underslung cladding were all incorporated into the design to meet NZ Van Lines’ specific warehouse needs. The new 1129m2 building took just 20 weeks to construct after the consent was completed. The warehouse features 1020m2 of functional space and makes great use of the DonoBeam system. This part of the build boasts top-to-bottom storage space thanks to the absence of obtrusive bracing that is often typical of standard structures. Additionally, the use of fully nested purlins between portals reduces building height, increases useable space, and reduces the ability of birds and vermin to perch on the structure above valuable inventory. The warehouse flows into 109qsm of office space, which features some stunning exterior architectural details. The external rainscreen with sleek timber slats, Paneltec Indurabond Aluminum cladding and glazed entry canopies all make for a welcoming entrance and a smart-looking building, says Geoff. “Our new Palmerston North branch was purpose built to deliver increased capabilities for our customers moving and storage needs, allowing growth and progression of our employees and further investment into the region,” says Mark Pitcher, Managing Director of NZ Van Lines. “It’s one of the smartest properties in the Manawatu.”
