Owner Hayden Nation started the business in 2016 to fulfil a hankering to make his own mark in the industry after working as a builder for 20 years. “In 2016 it was just me and an apprentice taking on small jobs, but now we’ve grown to a team of eight, giving us capacity to take on two or three large projects at a time,” Hayden says. Resolute Construction undertakes new builds, including passive homes, plus renovations. While building new homes is often a relatively straightforward process, when it comes to renovations it can be a different story, Hayden says. However, a Waikanae beach couple could not have been happier with the result of their major renovation project completed by Resolute Construction, they said. After putting their trust in Hayden and his team, they weren’t disappointed, even though the project needed to be completed to a six month deadline because of the house being a holiday rental. “We probably didn’t expect it to work out as it did because we have had building experiences before, and they don’t always turn out as planned.” “Hayden promised that he would come in within the six month period and he delivered.” The couple describe the condition of the house prior to the renovation as a mess with a lot of hidden problems, including issues with moisture. “It was more than we expected, the finishing’s great, Resolute Construction had good subcontractors and they all worked in together well.” A young Johnsonville couple that Resolute Construction built a stylish new 200 square metre, three bedroom weatherboard bungalow for echoed these sentiments. It was important for them to have a builder they could trust and who could understand their vision and purpose for a family home and that could “walk them through the processes”, they said. A special feature of their home is its kitchen which has a striking vaulted ceiling with skylights and abundant glazing, including sliding doors leading onto a private timber deck. “Nothing was too hard; Hayden was really good to deal with, they are a dream team.” Resolute Construction’s are passionate about their craft and Hayden aims to reinforce their dedication through a positive culture in the business. “We believe that good-hearted people make the best builders. We strive for a great team culture to guarantee the best possible team onsite and take great pleasure in seeing our staff learn, grow and thrive through the business. “We believe that extraordinary homes are built when all sub-trades and professionals come together and collaborate with unity.” Hayden is looking forward to building Resolute Construction’s first eco home that will use passive construction methods. To be located at Paraparaumu Beach, the two story house will be constructed with Porotherm clay block exterior walls. Porotherm are aerated, honeycomb-matrix, clay blocks that comprise a structural walling system, are simple and fast to build with and are finished with a render. “The clients spend a lot of time travelling and they love the European buildings and that’s where it stemmed from. There’s a Kiwi company in Cambridge that imports them.” Part of Resolute Construction’s service involves a collaboration with mortgage brokers Orange Network to make the process as seamless as possible. Once Resolute Construction gains an understanding of a client’s budget, a referral to Orange Network, where appropriate, helps with streamlining the financing process and provides clarity as to what is actually affordable before committing to a build. “Things are getting tighter and tighter at the moment so listening to the right people giving the right advice is key.” BUILDING
