LIFESTYLE Metspray - Expertise and Experience Metspray’s vast capacity, proven expertise and experienced team are key reasons it was chosen to apply the ireproof coatings to the steelwork at Ryman’s James Wattie Retirement Village in Havelock North. According to Metspray’s Senior Project Manager, Hendrik Elo , planning was key, especially as the project was undertaken during a rainy year and the product was sensitive to moisture. “We worked closely with the Ryman project management team and other trades, to build in contingencies for weather so that we could provide the best possible result,” he says. Despite being based in Auckland, Metspray’s adaptability meant it could transport the right equipment and team to the site as needed. “We have that support in-house to get the job done, which was important when working in with the weather,” says Hendrik. “This project shows we’re able to plan with principal contractors and can be lexible to bring sta on and o site as needed. It shows we can e ectively work with a wider team to meet targets.” Located in East Tamaki (Auckland), Metspray was formed in the 1960s. Today it is owned by Chris and Kim Schultz-Merrick who lead a strong, highly quali ied team. Their facility in East Tamaki comprises over 3000m2 of indoor painting space, 10 gantry cranes with a maximum lift rating of 20 tonne, and 3 abrasive blast booths. Zinc coating is applied in their thermal metal spray booth. In their Plant D is a training facility, which sees people from all over New Zealand and across the Tasman come to Metspray to further their skills. Future proo ing their practices, Metspray will be opening a purpose-built facility in Drury later this year with a state of the art air iltration system that will streamline e iciencies and improve environmental outcomes. Testament to Metspray’s capabilities and proven reputation is completion of a two and a half year project involving onsite blasting, preparation and painting of over 160,000m2 of structural steel at the New Zealand International Convention Centre. Other recently completed projects include the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ new temple in Auckland. It’s currently working on projects for McConnell Dowell at Auckland Airport, Babcock and the NZDF at Devonport Naval Base and a basement remediation project for a building in the CBD, along with various smaller projects, including for Ryman. Hendrik says developing long-term working relationships with clients is a focus and Ryman is a good example. “Ryman is a great client to work with. We have forged a strong collaborative relationship together and we look forward to assisting them in the future.” 09 274 5488 9 Neales Road, East Tamaki, Auckland customerservice@metspray.co.nz www.metspray.co.nz Superior protection for your structural steel and assets, no matter the environment.
