Mobil Oil New Zealand T T Richard Loader REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Mobil Oil New Zealand (Mobil) is New Zealand’s oldest fuels company and has been a leading supplier of fuel to New Zealand for more than 125 years. “We currently supply approximately 25% of the total fuel market from around 170 Mobil-branded sites throughout New Zealand,” says Wayne Ellary – Mobil Oil New Zealand Chair. “Mobil owns and sets the prices at 120 of these sites, with the remaining sites owned by independent businesses.” Mobil imports its fuel via a network of bulk fuel import and distribution terminals around New Zealand including six terminals that it operates. The company also operates the Wellington Airport Joint Venture, and supplies airline customers as part of the Auckland Airport Joint Venture. Committed to playing a role in the energy transition, as well as maintaining its supply of Mobil quality fuels to New Zealand that Kiwis rely on, Mobil believes the move to a lower-emission future requires multiple solutions that can be implemented at scale to address some of the highest-emitting sectors of the economy. “These solutions should include liquid fuels and non-liquid fuels, as both can contribute to emissions reduction goals,” says Wayne. “Our parent company, ExxonMobil plans to invest more than $20 billion on initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through to 2027, with a significant share focused on scaling up carbon capture and storage, hydrogen, and biofuels. “As part of this, we intend to do our part in the production and supply of low emissions fuels including Sustainable Aviation Fuel and Renewable Diesel to meet the industry’s demand. Our goal is to provide more than 40,000 barrels, or around 6.3 million litres, per “These solutions should include liquid fuels and non-liquid fuels, as both can contribute to emissions reduction goals.” day of lower-emissions fuels by 2025 and we have a further goal to provide over 30 million litres per day by 2030.” To achieve these goals, ExxonMobil will continue to focus investments on markets where well-designed policies support technologies that reduce life-cycle emissions. For example, ExxonMobil’s majority-owned affiliate, Imperial Oil Ltd, is investing about $560 million to move forward with construction of the largest renewable diesel facility in Canada. Mobil believes a well-designed biofuels obligation is an effective way to reduce emissions from transport and contribute to New Zealand’s emissions reductions goals. Similarly, a well-designed, market based SAF policy, that is technology and fuel agnostic, can help the aviation industry achieve its emissions and contribute to New Zealand’s emissions reductions goals. “In the absence of any current policy, we’re planning a number of trials to deliver renewable diesel to customers who are eager to test our supply chain, our fuels and their technology to achieve GHG emissions reductions. We are also pleased to be a participant in the Sustainable Aviation Aotearoa SAF technical working group.” Mobil actively supports New Zealand’s communities through charitable contributions, local iwi engagement, volunteer programs and investment into the regions. Mobil has partnered with many charitable organisations during its 125 years in New Zealand including through our Bright Future Grants program which supports STEM education in local school and our work with Conservation NZ. “We also have a well-established partnership with KidsCan that began in 2018 and makes a real difference to thousands of children across New Zealand.” GOfuel are a Mobil branded Reseller We are committed to providing products that are better for the environment.
