| 85 A small company taking on big contracts, SHP Developments has grown quickly with its old school values and real world perspective delivering high quality results for drainage and site works projects across Hawke’s Bay, and now also Hamilton. “We’re just hard working drainlayers with a focus on quality like they used to be in the old days,” says SHP’s Wilson Howard. “We do what we say we’re going to do and everything we do is done to a high standard of professionalism. We are often in the public eye and we pride ourselves on a good looking site, modern and up to date machinery, and a fantastic service for our clients.” Company owners Simon McKinley, quali ed drainlayer, and Wilson Howard, quali ed operator, are training apprentices in drainage, site works, septic and water tank installations or replacements, water lter installations, earth drilling, and more. “We’re investing heavily into the training of our team to make sure everyone learns to do everything,” Wilson says. “We’re an open-minded company who love a good laugh and we make sure our whole team knows where we are going and how we’re going to get there. Our guys have an opportunity by working and training with us, and we want them to make the most of it.” SHP can take care of all types of drainage projects from new builds or subdivisions that need connecting, civil works for a development, or an existing home that needs a new drainage system to stop water puddling at the back door. SHP’s earthworks services get new builds, subdivisions, and renovations started o on the right foot, preparing site cuts and under oors for the builders and while they’re there, they can also take care of all drainage, septic, and water tank needs, providing a one-stop-shop and making life easier for clients and project managers alike. Septic and water tanks are essential tools which require correct design and installation for safe wastewater disposal and drinking water supply. SHP can install, repair, or replace tanks, and is one of Hawke’s Bay’s approved Biolytics installers. Simon and Wilson both call Hawke’s Bay home and providing quality results and a fantastic service from start to nish for their hometown is one of their key drivers. “It’s great working in with the team of like minded individuals at David Reid, who appreciate quality and e ciency on their sites.” SHP got straight into clean up following Cyclone Gabrielle last year, turning up to the re station the next morning with trucks and diggers and asking to be sent wherever they could help. SHP donated $25,000 worth of time and machinery hours helping to clean up the land and even cutting into homes on the Napier Taupo road to get people and their possessions out to safety. “We are part of this community and we were happy we had the resources to help out during this terrible time. We just did what we could.” SHP is a regular sponsor of local schools, clubs, and the Special Children’s Extravaganza, where SHP turns up on the day with its kid-sized 800kg Kobelco mini digger for an extra bit of fun and learning for the kids. SHP is essentially a team that will take care of everything, with a couple of laughs and beers along the way.
