Cameron Construction BUILDING A creative spark and commitment to energy efficient, high performing housing is what distinguishes a prominent Wairarapa building firm from the others. Established nearly seven years ago, Carterton-based Cameron Construction has steadily expanded its presence in sustainable residential building across the wider Wairarapa region and surrounding coastal areas. Owner and director Mason Cameron, who has been involved in construction in the region since 2007 and previously gained experience in Australia at various mine sites, has a passion for high performance and Passive House construction and methodologies. This passion has led the firm to become the designated eHaus Wairarapa licensee. eHaus, a specialist design and construction company in New Zealand, completed the energy modelling for the first ever certified Passive House in New Zealand in 2011 and since then has built a national team of experts offering Passive House and high-performance homes. “eHaus empowers us to construct homes following the international Passive House standards,” he told Business Central,” Mason said. Passive House is an internationally recognised building standard that delivers a building that requires very little energy for heating or cooling. The result provides a warm, healthy, and comfortable living environment. The temperature is even throughout the home and operates typically between 20 and 25 degrees, while consuming minimal energy. Passive Houses consume between 75 per cent to 90 per cent less heating energy than a conventional house. Among Cameron Construction’s recent projects is the construction of a new eHaus in Kahutara. “This eHaus Pacific home is high-performing and required meticulous planning and specialised materials to meet the eHaus Pacific standard,” Mason elaborated. “Every one of our projects are energy modelled while still on the plans, so that we can accurately calculate just how much heat energy the home will use, guaranteeing the level of performance.” The home was built with SIPs (structural insulated panels) for structural integrity and thermal performance, rather than the standard 90mm timber frame. It will be fitted with high performance windows, high levels of insulation, and a MHRV (mechanical heat recovery ventilation) system to ensure optimal comfort and performance for the residence. “These products are normal for an eHaus but aren’t typical for a home built to the minimum building code. It’s these specialised materials that help deliver an airtight, energy-efficient, healthy home.” Over the years, Mason and his team have developed strong partnerships with local contractors, ensuring seamless, and efficient project execution. Currently the team is made up of five qualified builders and one apprentice, and Mason said they make sure the team are well looked after. “We have a family orientated environment where I like to think of everyone as part of the whanau, and we provide them with a diverse range of work experience.” Reflecting on recent industry shifts influenced by Covid, including high interest rates and material shortages, Mason emphasised the firm’s commitment to client satisfaction. “Client-centric to me means always wanting my client to be happy, to achieve their build goals within their budget and have it completed on time.” With a meticulous approach to quality control, Cameron Construction deliberately limits its project load to maintain excellence across every project, ensuring each job meets their high standards. Mason had a set of core objectives when starting the business in 2017: flexibility to spend time with his family, supporting apprenticeships to develop and grow, building a sustainable business for the future, and catering to diverse customers. Looking back, he is proud of the company’s accomplishments and the homes they have created. “Every one of our projects are energy modelled while still on the plans, so that we can accurately calculate just how much heat energy the home will use, guaranteeing the level of performance.” (06) 377 1331 | www.prestigejoinery.co.nz Proud to be a key supplier to Cameron Construction KITCHEN & BATHROOM SPECIALISTS, WELLINGTON & WAIRARAPA WINNER — MASTER JOINER’S KITCHEN OF THE YEAR 2014 & 2018 Membrane | General Roof Maintenance | Roofing | Gutters & Downpipes Proudly Supporting Cameron Construction Chris Casha 027 873 4578 chris.casha@tuanui.co.nz Residential & Commercial Plumbing Solutions • PLUMBING • GAS FITTING • DRAINLAYING • DRAIN CLEARING • IQP CERTIFICATION IN BACKFLOW • ONSITE WASTEWATER TREATMENT DESIGN & MAINTENANCE 06 378 8701 Waterwise Wairarapa e: admin@waterwisewairarapa.com w: www.waterwisewairarapa.com
