Trudi and husband Andrew established Shed Central Ltd, formally known as ShedBoss Taupo, in 2012. “Yes it’s been tough, first through COVID, and now the cost of living, however we’ve added another string to our bow, in order to navigate these times,” Trudi says. And that string is to develop storage unit facilities for sale as unit titles. Taupo is one region that is experiencing a buoyant level of growth in the commercial sector in particular. Housing developments tend to focus more on smaller section sizes, meaning there’s always demand for storage facilities. “The development we’re currently working on in Manuka Street, when completed will have 43 individually titled storage units of various sizes. We’ve also provided sheds for other storage unit operators. So far, with this project we’ve sold 12 units,” says Trudi. She also understands that right now a lot of people are sitting back waiting for the titles to be out before committing to buying a unit, so Trudi is quietly optimistic that it won’t be long before the majority of units are sold. The units range in size from 40 to 97sqm, giving purchasers lots of options. Of the total number, 37 units are inside the gated compound while the remainder are outside. These, Trudi says, are particularly useful for tradees using the storage unit for their gear, therefore wanting easy access. “They also have a little kitchenette and toilet facility where these outside units are located.” Construction on the development started in October last year and Trudi says they gave themselves a year to complete it.
