The business received awards for Sustainability and Community Engagement, an achievement Andrew Sturt, the company’s marketing manager, says everyone is extremely proud of. “Tommy’s has been operating in the region for nearly 30 years now and has always had a strong community focus, giving back to the community that supports it, in lots of meaningful ways,” Andrew says. And being a very Wellington-focussed business means it is able to contribute through long-standing relationships with key charities and organisations that really make a difference. Two notable ones are Wellington’s Free Ambulance and the Life Education Trust while more recently the Everybody Eats programme has come under the wing of Tommy’s support. “Everybody Eats, means exactly what those words say. It’s a charitable restaurant in the heart of Wellington offering 3-course meals for everyone to enjoy on a ‘pay what you can’ basis. So it’s not only meeting a real need out there in our community, but its also reducing food waste. We’re proud to be supporting this valuable social enterprise.” By supporting the community, it is not just about providing funds Andrew says. Tommy’s team members regularly engage on the ground, rolling up their sleeves to help out practically. “We think being out there doing it, is just as important as providing financial support. The REINZ Sustainability Award, highlighted Tommy’s Real Estate’s commitment to sound environmental practices within their daily business practices. Over the past year, Tommy’s provided more than $35,000 toward the planting of over 3800 native trees to enhance the local environment. “The wonderful outcomes achieved through planting native trees is that it not only offsets carbon emissions but helps enhance the very environments supporting biodiversity.” Within its day-to-day operation Tommy’s has also found ways to reduce waste.
