Manawatu Cold Storage, situated on Kawakawa Rd just outside Feilding, is counting down to the opening of its brand-new facilities on 31 October, designed to keep pace with fast rising demand for frozen storage in the district. Sustainable design is an impressive feature of this project, with the roof of the new building covered in solar panels. “We wanted to do what’s best for the environment and the added bonus of solar is that it will significantly reduce power costs going forward,” says general manager Brent Cawthray. Manawatu Cold Storage, known locally as Mancold, is dedicated to providing a service that’s second to none. This large new complex is adding six new blast freezers (or an extra 168metric tonnes of capacity), 1350sqm of frozen product storage, 1100sqm for sorting and loading as well as a new office block and administration building to support Mancold’s growing operation. It is great news for Manawatū’s beef, lamb, chicken, dairy, pork and petfood sector that is heavily reliant on quality, reliable cold storage and distribution services. As Brent explains, the majority of freezing works are not set up for storage at scale so third party providers like Mancold are an essential link in the chain T T to page 29 keeping kiwis cool since 1997 PROUD TO SUPPORT MANAWATU COLD STORAGE
