That wide remit means the company is just as likely to be installing a backyard sprinkler system as it is designing effluent dispersal fields for a district council. “Pretty much anything water related,” is how company business development manager Liam Taylor pitches his products and services. “Plumbing through to irrigation, water treatment, water supply - domestic through to commercial, large-scale operations.” That breadth shows up across the region. On the residential side, Think Water provides everything from whole-house filtration and lawn sprinklers to swimming pool installation and servicing. For farmers and growers, the company designs and installs stock water systems, orchard irrigation, and effluent dispersal fields. The business began modestly a decade and a half ago, when two founders operated from a shed in Taradale. Today, Think Water Hawkes Bay has grown to three retail branches in Napier, Hastings, and Waipukurau - the newest opening just 12 months ago. Each branch serves a distinct market: Napier caters to retail clients, with pumps, lawn care, and pool chemicals; Hastings focuses on agriculture and horticulture; while Waipukurau serves sheep and beef farmers as well as a growing market of lifestyle-block owners. That growth has been matched by expansion in staffing, and the business now employs 24 people, including 12 installers, a team of seasoned designers, and dedicated administration and service staff. Liam’s role as business development manager reflects the company’s scale, with each branch now run by its own store manager. Safety sits at the core of operations, underpinning everything from daily site work to major tenders. “The biggest thing is making sure everyone’s safe and they get to go home at the end of the day,” Liam says. Many clients demand high compliance standards, and Think Water holds strong safety credentials, including SiteWise gold status, to meet those expectations. Industry-wide, the spotlight on water infrastructure has only intensified since the 2016 Havelock North water crisis. Liam says compliance requirements are shifting rapidly, and Think Water has worked to stay ahead of the game. “We work very closely with suppliers who are represented on the boards shaping the regulations,” he says.
