Economically it eliminates the need for resource consent applications for smaller village wastewater ponds and streamlines operational costs. More importantly, says Michael, it addresses pressing environmental concerns about waterway health. “There are some significant environmental benefits arising from this project,” he says. “The current situation has wastewater treated to standards which were acceptable in years gone by and discharged into waterways. The irrigation system covers 130 hectares of the council’s 200-hectare land holding, operated by five pivot irrigators and three large travelling irrigators. The council has also constructed what it believes to be New Zealand’s largest constructed wetlands, featuring over 86,000 native plants specifically selected for their treatment properties. The wetlands can process over six million litres of wastewater daily, with treated wastewater taking three days to travel through the system before being discharged to land, or reaching the Ōroua River. Following Rongotea’s completion in 2026, the programme will continue with connections from Halcombe, Awahuri, Cheltenham and Kimbolton. 25+ Years experience Galvanised and Powdercoated Fencing Options Project Supply & Installation of Quality Fencing Systems FECO FENCE SYSTEMS For all your Security Fencing Needs Proudly Supporting Manawatu District Council Contact Us sales@feco.co.nz www.feco.co.nz 0800 FENCING
