This year Hair Mode has been selected as a finalist in the Consumer Services Award and the Customers Experience Award. The winners will be announced on October 23 at an awards evening. It’s Hair Mode’s managing director Angelina (Ange) Quinn’s ninth year in business and two years ago she built a new salon space to accommodate the businesses growth. “Our custom-built salon sits on our home property in the hills of Waikanae Downs, surrounded by greenery and peaceful views of the Kapiti Coast. “The space is fully self-contained and professional, where I work full-time Monday to Friday alongside my second-year apprentice Mel and another talented stylist who rents a chair. “Clients enjoy a calm, one-on-one appointment where they can unwind while we create beautiful, personalised hair that helps them look and feel their best. To ensure the highest quality results, we use the luxury Kevin Murphy haircare range - a brand known for its performance, eco-conscious values, and luxurious feel.” She has been a hairdresser for 22 years and opened Hair Mode in 2016 when she was at home with her second child Ryder. She thought it would just be a little bit of spending money and had no idea how big it would become. “When I worked for someone else I missed out a lot with my daughter (Dilana) so work life balance became very important to me. “It began in central Waikanae with just me and one chair, before we moved into a larger home and eventually built our new purpose-built salon.” Entering the awards gave her a chance to reflect on how far the business has come. “Filling in the application from was rewarding in itself. It opened my eyes to the goals and strategies I already had in place. To be a finalist in the customer experience is very humbling.” T T Emma Bailey She is mindful of the current economic climate on clients. “We haven’t put our prices up because we know that people are finding it hard.” It is very much a family operation. “I couldn’t have done this without my husband Quinn. He’s been my rock from the very beginning — building my first space, encouraging me to take the leap into business and project-managing the new salon build while also running his own earthworks company. His support with our kids and home life has been just as important.” Life is busy for the family with her daughter Dilana, 18, now out flatting, while at home she has her son Ryder, 9, and her niece Jaymee (15) staying with them this year for school “I love that I’ve been able to create a balance where I can manage the business while still being present for my family.” Earthworks and Excavation Specialists.
