The company was founded in April 2007 by Mark and Robyn Wilkin when they recognised the need for an independent customer-focused tanker constructor based in the Wellington area. The company today is still led by Mark and Robyn as its managing directors, supported T T Russell Fredric by sons Scott its general manager and Paul, the workshop manager, while Bevan Hare is service manager. We do everything in-house; we’re the only fuel tanker manufacturer that has their own paint shop.” “We engineer and fabricate all the heavy steel equipment that’s needed, all the structural items needed for a truck or trailer and we also fabricate all the light equipment: all the aluminium like toolboxes and exhaust shields, everything like that and we are fitting all kinds of dangerous goods equipment and parts.” Because Tanker Solutions is an essential industry centred around petroleum transport, it has benefited from having consistent turnover that is underpinned by a diverse and loyal customer base. “We’ve only been subject to the lack of supply during covid. Economic recessions don’t have the same effect on the business, but global supply is an issue. In the last two years we’ve cleared up the backlog and now we’re really back to normal.” “We have quite a few different clients that do the servicing on the tankers around the country, because we sell the wholesale parts to them.” A new truck or trailer can be completed in four months from order, while a remount, where a tank from a retired truck is installed on a new rig, can be done in a month.
