Newtech’s new production facility at 30 Mill Road, Whanganui is harnessing cutting-edge machinery and automation to bring manufacturing back to New Zealand, says Katie Denman from Newtech. “We have invested heavily in machinery to bring our own manufacturing on site. We now cut all of our panels and have employed additional staff, including a CNC specialist. We do end-to-end manufacturing from cutting the board to the finished product. This shift marks a departure from the previous approach of outsourcing board cutting to suppliers and signifies a robust commitment to manufacturing in New Zealand,” she explains. Spanning 7000sqm the facility, which started production in May, represents a strategic move that goes beyond mere expansion; it signifies a paradigm shift in the way manufacturing is approached. Marcus Wycherley, Newtech’s National Sales Manager, highlights that the new facility “will enable production to increase significantly and also enhance operational efficiencies.” Central to the transformation is the infusion of state-of-the-art technology, such as the automated CNC plant, that forms the cornerstone of Newtech’s manufacturing process. It takes raw sheets of board and transforms them into prefinished components, ready for skilled assemblers to put together. Two automated panel selectors feed the CNC machine, with robot cranes facilitating seamless material movement. The facility’s heavy investment in technology also includes the Homag DRILLTEQ, a precision drilling machine that crafts intricate holes, an edge bander machine and a water jet cutter for slicing quartz for vanity and laundry tops. Automation is woven into the facility’s very fabric, exemplified by the brand-new electric reach trucks equipped with auto-leveling forks and laser-guided assistance. These tools enhance not only efficiency but also safety, says Katie. A warehouse management system further drives precision, instructing machines and forklifts to operate efficiently in fetching and delivering products. Katie says that sustainability remains a crucial pillar of Newtech’s ethos. The company has shifted to sourcing its board locally, reducing its carbon footprint. Additionally, the entire fleet of equipment within the facility operates on electricity, aligning with environmentally friendly practices. The emphasis on sustainability not only showcases a responsible approach but also underscores Newtech’s commitment to the future of manufacturing, says Katie. Newtech’s journey is as much about people as it is about technology. The facility’s expanded office space signifies a focus on cultivating a productive work environment, while job opportunities generated by the investment in the facility contribute to the growth of the local community. “We wouldn’t be anywhere without our team. They make our business great,” says Katie who emphasizes that the people-centric approach resonates throughout the company’s culture and operations. Founded by Jeremy Anderson, Newtech is now also owned by Jeremy’s brother Craig, Marcus Wycherley and Tony Hart. Each brings unique expertise. Tony is a joiner by trade, Marcus comes from a family run aluminium joinery factory and the other two directors come from a business background resulting in a great combination of business and industry experience in the leadership team. Newtech employs around 80 staff with a wealth of knowledge and experience spanning sales, manufacturing, procurement and more. Katie says that simple, practical and great value bathroom products are at the heart of what makes Newtech successful. “We believe your bathroom is the most important space in a home. This is where people spend time alone, relaxing, making plans and dreaming of the future. The bathroom should reflect who a person is and what they are about.” She says that Newtech’s commitment to innovation and improvement has made it an industry leader in baths, toilets, vanities and other bathroom essentials. Katie says it’s a fast growing market and catering to trends has been part of the company’s growth trajectory. One of the company’s latest product ranges is Serenity, a selection of designer vanities with various drawer front designs. It has also just released a newly refreshed Vista range of vanities with new solid colours as well as wood grain finishes. Another new release is laundry packages, which include floating shelves and additional colour options. In baths, there are some stunning new textured finishes. Katie says that Newtech always puts its customers first and that this is a driving force of the business. “We’re very focused on our customers and their needs. They are always our top priority along with having fantastic products at competitive prices.” · Floor Tiling · Commercial · Waterproofing · Wall Tiling · Residential · Supply & Install Proud to support Newtech 0274171186 matt@mtsutherlandtilingltd.com www.mtsutherlandtilingltd.com A workspace for Newtech that’s so good they’ll look forward to Monday mornings!
