Made Hamilton is poised to open its doors and Made General Manager Chloe Wiles says the venue is set to become a lively community hub full of Hamilton artisans and vendors, showcasing predominantly local products. Set in the middle of Grey Street and formerly home to the Waikato Regional Council, Made will house upwards of 40 tenants offering a mix of produce markets, eateries, bespoke retail, and light industrial and commercial spaces. Made is already home to the new Duck Island headquarters and ice cream factory. “Connecting to the river walkways has been a big part of our motivation,” says Matt Stark from Stark Property, the developer of the project. “Being able to bike, walk or wander in is pretty cool and we have combined that with over 150 car parks. Showcasing some of the best of what the Waikato has to offer under one roof is exciting and we think we’ve got some of the finest operators.” In the Made Market are fresh food and artisan market kiosks alongside the Bare Refill Grocery Store where shoppers can fulfil all their essential grocery needs. Shoppers can also purchase take home freshly baked goods from Volare, readymade meals from RedKitchen, seasonal vegetables from the green grocer and choice cuts from the butcher. An interesting concept launching in the market is The Larder, a collective of smaller producers and makers working from one site to bring must have pantry staples, handmade goods, fresh produce and more together into one space. “In line with the ethos of Made, this extends the opportunity to emerging businesses to showcase and sample local products at the tasting table,” explains Chloe. The Mess Hall, next to a riverside deck, provides a collection of places to eat including the south Indian cuisine of Spice Lane, Brie from On a Roll and gelato from Little ‘Lato. A new local craft beer bar, Hāpi and Amphora wine bar will also make the mess hall home, which ticks a lot of boxes for casual dining and hospitality, says Chloe. Made has also attracted some well-known brands from Auckland including Crack Chicken and Burger Burger. The Mezzanine at Made offers boutique retail and services including Alexmarie Homewares, Found Store women’s fashion and Chair by Jane Harris Massage. Down in The Sheds, Mystery Creek Ceramics and The Green Restaurant have already opened their doors while Grey Roasting Co and Ranger Studio are set to open later this month. Chloe says a big part of Made will be giving people the opportunity to engage in the experiential side of retail: “It’s about talking to the maker or grower. People really value that storytelling aspect,” she says. Stark Property, headed by Matt and wife Jaimee, is a commercial and residential property company based in Hamilton.
