Bricks from the old buildings were used to reclad the corner building that now houses cafe and homewares shop Kindred Road. Steel was re-purposed for the garden beds and, wherever possible, the original surfaces were restored as a nod to the buildings’ rich heritage. The old newspaper is still acknowledged in the Tribune name for the complex, which has been built in stages and is now complete. The old press room is home to the Brave Brewing Company, and the latest additions to the array of businesses already operating are a Japanese sushi restaurant and a shared co-working space. The old printing press warehouse has been repurposed as office and hospitality spaces, with a large sun-filled atrium ,with a circular steel stairway and a mezzanine walkway, available for hire along with a commercial kitchen. The Tribune precinct is the latest in a series of successful projects the Hansens have completed since their return to Hawke’s Bay in 2009. Barb is a lawyer who gained her law and arts degrees at Auckland University, then spent years working in Auckland and London before teaming up with Rob on his property development projects. Rob completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree at Otago University, followed it up with a Master of Business Administration degree, and spent time working first for global accounting firm Ernst and Young in Auckland, and then in corporate finance positions in London. The Hansens are hugely confident of Hawke’s Bay’s future, with Rob seeing the region as “going from strength to strength.” “This part of Hastings has a wonderful eclectic group of interesting, independent retail shops and hospitality offerings, so it’s becoming a great destination for locals and, increasingly, visitors from out of town.” Superior Roofing Ltd LOOKING FOR A SUPERIOR, HIGH QUALITY ROOF?
