| 21 Wellington: Whittaker’s Whittaker’s entire range of 116 products that are crafted with Ghanaian cocoa beans is 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified. REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Lamprint is involved in ongoing trials with Whittaker’s regarding the next generation of paper materials to support Whittaker’s goal for all of its packaging to be 100% sustainable by 2025. Currently 76.9% of the packaging materials Whittaker’s uses can be recycled. “Lamprint has been working closely with Whittaker’s and other companies for a number of years on sustainable packaging and we like to think we’re at the forefront of developments in this area. To support this we spend above the industry norm on new product development with a focus on sustainability. We’re small and that means we can move fast, which is important with this rapidly changing technology,” says Lamprint managing director Bradley Holmes. He says Whittaker’s is loyal to working with local companies and suppliers on this journey and that he has great admiration for Whittaker’s drive towards sustainability across many aspects of its operation. “At Lamprint we very much enjoy working with them on their sustainability goals. They are dynamic and are really taking the lead in this.” He says sustainable packaging is the future and Lamprint keep up with the latest technology and trends so it can discuss the options with its clients so they can determine the right path for their business. In terms of soft plastics, BOPP and LDPE are recyclable, says Bradley. Certain coatings can also negate the ability for the material to be recycled and this is where Lamprint’s expertise comes to the fore advising customers as to the best option for them. Paper products are another option being recyclable. Challenges include ensuring the material gives the products wrapped a good barrier to meet required shelf life but the new paper products deliver the same functionality as BOPP in this regard. Compostable packaging is another option being offered by Lamprint and there are a full range of compostable films available. Located in Wellington, Lamprint was established around 35 years ago and provides a flexible packaging manufacturing service to the Australasian FMCG markets. The company creates flexible packaging from conceptual design and development right through to production for customers wanting to create a brand that stands out from the clutter of supermarket shelves. “We have strong relationships with our key clients, in helping to create and deliver a brand to the market that captures the consumers’ imagination,” says Bradley. Continually investing in new technology has been an important part of the company’s success in achieving outstanding results for clients. As a privately-owned company, Lamprint can be more nimble in responding to customer and market demands, says Bradley. “This is backed up with exceptional product quality and service. Coupled with an understanding of the highly competitive nature of consumer brands and how packaging can dramatically enhance the market’s receptivity of those brands Lamprint is well positioned to continue creating packaging of distinction for clients such as Whittaker’s.” Focusing on sustainability Business Development Bradley Holmes Phone: +64 21 522 569 Email: bradley@lamprint.co.nz
