Services The rapid growth of Hamilton-based ITS Group has been significantly underpinned by specialising in industrial plumbing, maintenance and associated services. ITS has been providing reliable, high-quality commercial plumbing services to the North Island for many years, but was established in its present form late 2011 as the result of a merger with Hopa Plumbing. During the past two years the business has grown from employing five staff to now needing 15 staff to handle its workload. On the back of its significant success in the industrial sector, ITS has expanded to areas outside plumbing and related trades to new home builds, maintenance , concrete work and even tree work in order to to provide a seamless service for its clients. General manager Rhys McLachlan says the business is equipped to handle any type of commercial work ranging from large commercial projects to small residential developments, renovations and simple repairs. “Because of our industrial background we provide a huge ranges of services in this sector so that's where our other services outside of plumbing such as concreting and fencing come from.” “We pride ourselves on taking the stress out of a project and managing it to make everyone's life easy.” Rhys especially attributes the company's growth during the past two years to this strong customer focus and the high level of service it was able to provide during the covid pandemic. One client who is a major food processor, had to urgently make provision for mandatory personal distancing when the panedmic broke out. Consequently ITS arranged for 49 Portacoms to be placed on-site for facilities such as staff rooms, canteens, toilets and showers, including the provision of water and waste water services, as well as undertaking concreting, fencing and ancillary facilities and services. Fundamental to supporting the businesses growth has been the recruiting and training of staff, including apprentices and ITS have invested strongly in this and in the staff's overall welfare. “We've always had highly skilled apprentices, they're very keen, we are very fortunate with the people that we've hired, our staff turnover is very low.” While the plumbing trade still requires traditional skills, the skill-set required today is much more multi-faceted and in the industrial environment that makes up about 60% of ITS' work, the company has the resources and expertise to meet its clients current and future needs, whether for a major planned project or at short notice. ITS Group – making life easy forestry companies and recreational users around the design phase and getting those land owner agreements. “We have engaged subcontractors and set up site, we’ve got an office that’s off grid, we’ve actually installed a lot of solar panels and have a water source, we are living our values, we are quite proud to showcase that.” Kenai has engaged a wallaby expert as a consultant for the project. Installing a fence along the state highway creates some practical challenges, such as drilling the bottom of the timber posts so they break off if impacted by a vehicle and having the fencing wire custom-made with a hinged 300 flat section on the ground to stop wallablies digging under or pushing through. Other considerations requiring solutions include providing for human and vehicle access to waterways, culverts, waterways, road and bridge crossings farms and businesses while still containing the wallabies. Kenai started design work May this year and construction is planned to start in October with completion programmed for June 2023.
